They are all rocks, the sun seems to be making the shades look very dark. It's a different planet in a different orbit, the sun is hitting it differently than what we are used to.

Aside from the optical illusion(s), it looks like running water has cut away the bottom of many of the rocks, giving them "cliffs" a few inches above the sand. Like they were in a shallow stream at some point in the past. Interesting photos. Thanks.

To the OP...this is cool, and intriguing, BUT

The shadow is too big. It's that simple really. The shadow is larger on BOTH
sides of the "levitating rock".

It either has to be a cool optical illusion, or the source of light
that causes the shadow is very near the rock and very small.

hence...cool optical illusion
