Thanks for the kind words, but I'm not sure how popular this thread will be.

Some members of ATS and other UFO forums tend to get a bit twitchy when I start pointing out any hoaxes - as if I were attempting to undermine ufology (while I view pointing out evidence of hoaxes as being a necessary and important part of UFO research).

On the other hand, some skeptically minded members tend to get frustrated that I will not label lots more videos as hoaxes (while I am reluctant to list a video as explained unless I have formed the view that the position is clear beyond any reasonable doubt AND I have time to set out the material on which I formed that view).

Part of the reason why Ufology is so lacking when it comes to policing is because many ufologists themselves work, in one way or another, for "the powers that be". Furthermore, the people who could most help ufology establish itself as a publicly respected field of study, are directly or indirectly pushed out of the field. Most scientists and engineers, that could help Ufology establish itself cannot work in the field without incurring ridicule from their colleagues or surveillance from "the powers that be". Actually the "powers that be" monitor most professional scientists most of the time, for reasons unrelated to UFOs.

He uses an 8" telescope with a video camera attached I have read his claims, it doesn't add up .

Do you consider that people who work commercially in the UFO field promoting (i.e those with a heavy bias to the ETH who write books and get paid for speaking publicly on the topic) are a help or a hindrance to ufology?

To correct, I think Roswell was a high-level anti-Soviet propaganda, psy-op that got mis-communicated to the local Roswell AAF.

Other hoaxes, Gulf-Breeze - Ed Walters, Whitley Strieber's hoax to revive his career, Billy Meier, MJ-12 papers (Bill Moore), Bruce Maccabee (CIA plant), and a lot of true believers who just wouldn't let it go, jumping on every story and declaring it proof.

Koi UFO Video 089 appears to show an unidentified flying object very similar to photographs circulated online in 2007 by "Chad" and others.

It's rare that I'd describe a UFO video as a thing of beauty, but I think this one qualifies.

He created a series of "drone" animations, including a music video featuring the voice of ufologist Linda Moulton Howe. Kris Avery's videos caused some confusion among "drone" researchers. Some researchers (including Linda Moulton Howe) appear to have believed that at least some of Kris Avery's drone videos were real. On the other hand, some skeptics have viewed the videos as evidence that all the drone photographs were hoaxed by Kris Avery. In fact, Kris Avery stated that he created his video based on the photographs which were circulating online. He has denied that he created those photographs and I am not aware of any evidence which contradicts that denial.

You may have seen some other researchers using videos to address hoaxes, such as the highly amusing UFO Theater website.

It would be fitting to use fire to fight fire, but beyond my current abilities.

Of course, anyone else is free to use the information I've posted in their own videos. In fact, come to think of it, I'll mention this possibility to the person behind UFO Theater.

There are plenty of people in the field that are a hindrance, but I would not equate that group with everyone working commercially. There is nothing inherently wrong with seeking to recover some of the costs incurred in doing research (or, for that matter, making a profit) - as long as the desire to make some money does not bias the results and result in production of sensational nonsense.

Possibly. In fact, after working on it quite a bit during the last few years, I have largely finished researching and writing a thread about the best UFO cases (some of which include photos and/or movie footage).

Unfortunately, that thread contains multiple links to the Open Minds website - and links to that website are currently banned on ATS.

I've taken this up with Springer and others, but it does not seem that the position will be changing in the foreseeable future.

Sadly, this means that I can't post the relevant thread here without either:
(1) taking out bits that I think are important, or
(2) not giving credit where it is due, or
(3) including the relevant links only to have the software on this forum remove them, resulting in the thread being a bit of a mess.

At the moment, I'd rather not post the relevant thread at all rather than adopt any of those approaches.
