I never even noticed those different coloured borders before..
Looks like we are in the same club.

Years back we had "silver contributor" or "gold contributer" tags after our posts,I guess this is an evolution of that.

Feel the same way. Its always a pleasure to have discourse with you, no matter which side of any given issue we end up on.

Have you ever seen pyrites under one of those? About eighteen years ago there was a really fantastic installation at our local museum, in which a JVC video microscope was set up, and you could put whatever you wanted on it, and look at it. They had some pretty awesome stuff set up that you could look at, various minerals with phosphorescent stria, crystals, sedimentary rocks, and of course, you could bring things in as well!

I can only imagine how cool it would be to have access to an SEM on the same level, just walk in off the street and think to yourself "damn, I could really go for a peek at that verdigris covered coin I have in my pocket!".

I can thank Plymouth Electron Microscopy Centre for the avatar, I reckon if the Uni charged for a a pic of samples from non-students then they could make a fair amount of extra cash to contribute towards research or student welfare.
