Below are some snippets from a reportage called "Attorneys at War" from The weekly Standard:

For three straight days starting on July 15, 2014, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) made thousands of phone calls to the residents of Shejaiya in northern Gaza. The locals were encouraged to evacuate their homes before IDF tanks rolled across the border. Tens of thousands of leaflets were dropped into the village. These leaflets suggested both a safe evacuation route and safe destinations to head for within Gaza City. The IDF sent similar messages daily via local television and radio. But that’s not all. The IDF also made dozens of phone calls to Shejaiya’s influential citizens, asking them to get out the word of the impending IDF incursion.

Thousands and thousands of warnings were given. The Israeli military authorities essentially told the enemy where the IDF troops would enter the village and when. And for three days, Hamas fighters, no dummies, took full advantage. They dug their own forces in deeper. They activated booby-traps. They hid IEDs. They got snipers into perfect positions. They brought in additional fighters. They pre-positioned weapons. They readied their terror tunnels.

At this point, it was abundantly clear that IDF commanders had gone beyond any mandates that international law requires to avoid civilian casualties. No matter. Putting their own troops at even greater risk, IDF commanders decided to wait yet another day to allow more time for civilians to get out.

Warning that you are going to invade another's territory doesn't make it right.
(Is that too much more simplistic than excusing your actions by saying, "Well, we warned you...."

Even if you are being shot at from that territory?

That happens when you occupy other peoples land.

Wake up to reality. Israel is keeping people from going freely from Gaza with checkpoints unlawfully detaining them and has turned Gaza into the largest open air prison in the world. There doesn't have to be settlers living in Gaza to occupy Gaza.

How did you came up with that?
There are no checkpoints or movement restriction inside Gaza strip. There are checkpoints on the border between Gaza and Israel, as on every other border in the world. In addition, Israel does not control the border between Gaza strip and Egypt.

There doesn't have to be settlers living in Gaza to occupy Gaza.

Well, this is the definition of occupation: Control and possession of hostile territory that enables an invading nation to establish military government against an enemy or martial law against rebels or insurrectionists in its own territory. Source
The only ones who established a military government in Gaza are Hamas. So maybe you right, they are occupied after all.

Nor did Israel. The last settlements in Gaza were evacuated 10 years ago, so the Gazans got their stolen land back.
Regarding the occupation, there are no Israeli presence in Gaza, so how are they occupied by Israel?

But that land doesn't belong to Israel it is illegally occupied. The rest of your post is just nonsense.

Nice tactics. Don't agree with your opinion = nonsense.
If you think it's nonsense - don't reply.

Israel was given a land and they chose to break that agreement by expanding their borders. Annexing land by force is against international law. Every bit of land they have stolen since 1948 should be returned to the Palestinians.

To say that the government that was elected into office is occupying that land is nonsense. What is the definition of occupation? The holding and control of an area by a foreign military force which is exactly what Israel is doing when it comes to Gaza. Next time don't just link to military occupation but rather occupation itself.

Then why did they call telling them to evacuate their homes? I find your viewpoint most disturbing.

Military attorneys, during wartime, would be better served by placing them in an infantry unit. Advice from military attorneys allowed Bin Laden enough time to escape to Pakistan from Tora Bora.

Just a few military lawyers that you may know...Lindsey Graham and Scott Brown.

I had the distinct honor (not) to have served with the military (JAG) attorney who defended the Ohio Governor ( Jim Rhodes) after the Kent State shootings. I made my crew chief wash the helicopter twice after flying him to Akron,Ohio.

When the criminal justice system is subject to occupation law

A court of non-convictions when the victim is Palestinian

Faced with settler violence, the IDF stands idly by

The same way the Warsaw Ghetto wasn't occupied, right?

If Israel deserves the right to exist then so does Palestine. If Israel wants to wall off and blockade Palestine they will be resisted.

There were lots of reports during the brief wars between Gaza and Israel of people receiving phones calls advising to leave as an airstrike is incoming.

I've never heard of Palestinians doing the same to Israeli's.
