I believe this author, K C Cole might interest those interested in nothing.

www.goodreads.com...

What is nothing ? Does it exert influence? Does it have boundaries? Is it able to be measured? These are only a speck of the questions, speculation and thought provoking questions Cole investigates. I belive it was also a best seller around 1999 or 01 or there abouts. Pure thought provoking genius......

Life is the Voidless Void, the Absent Absence, the Emptiness that is empty of emptiness.
There is nothing here nor there, not even nothing. All that appears is nothing, and all concepts that create the experience of life are nothing. There is no you and no me, no him or her, no this or that. That which makes life so wonderful is nothing and that which brings sorrow and despair is nothing. And nothing is the reason life is so beautiful.

Saying "is" implies being, implies something. What it doesn't imply is nothing.

Life is simply happening (being) - it is not made of separate things - being is not two. If there is not two then there are no things - nothing.

Really all you can know is duality. Non-duality isn't its own thing, it's just the absense of duality. So it's not really a reality at all.

If everything is nothing...so is your thread, and we have no reason for living...or dying...or even reading your thread...and posting on ATS in response. Correct????

No need to respond...its nothing

We don't need a reason to do anything. We're no different than any other animal, our urges guide us all. Otherwise I wouldn't have wrote this and you wouldn't have read it

What's there to be depressed about? We live in paradise

There's no one living in paradise. This is paradise.
When there is a someone the paradise is lost.

There are plenty of things, evidenced by simply looking around. There is no nothing.

There is just this one image of light that is eternally appearing.

There may appear to be things on a tv screen but really it is just one image of ever changing light.

So...you agree. Because you've now voluntarily made your response...something. Its no longer NOTHING.

Ok...from your standpoint...happiness and our "paradise" is NOTHING. That would depress anybody...you see...to a degree? Everything...even NOTHING...is SOMETHING.

At best...zero still equal zero...and that is something.

We discussed in college once about the meaning of life with 2 different exam questions on a 1 question final, and 1 question mid-term.

1. What is the meaning of life? A+ answer? "To LIVE!"

2....and the next midterm-one question exam:
"WHY?" Not why what or how or who...just "WHY?" A+ answer? "BECAUSE!".

To make a grim but valid point, if the meaning of life is to live, than why do so many opt for suicide?

The tv screen is a metaphor. Look right now with flood light vision (take in all that is appearing) instead of spot light vision (focusing on a particular bit ie. computer). See that there is just one image that contains the particulars - like the tv screen is not really made of lots of different things appearing on it - the things appearing on it are made of the screen - the tv screen is the ever present backdrop that gets overlooked.
When there is nothing appearing on the screen/backdrop there is nothing.
When the screen/backdrop is full of moving image - it contains everything.

Nothing and everything is what there is - this is it - this is never not it.

Except there is no image or screen. There is no backdrop. Nothing is appearing on anything. It contains nothing, because it isn't an it. So, "this" isn't it all. It seems all you can ever speak of is the metaphor, while refusing to speak about anything else. It reads to me that you hold a superstition towards words and metaphors.

Can you express your point without metaphor? Maybe a real life example? Or should I ask the air beside you to do it since you are one and the same?

you said "the universe is a thought", did you want to mean that the universe is a thought or a dream of a godlike being, or did you want to mean that it's because all we can do is think about the universe, thus what we take for the universe is only a thought in our mind ?
