I place this in Rants because the protest is a rant.

I have heard many say that they are not going celebrate the Fourth because America isn't America anymore. For some it is due to the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage. For others the Confederate Flag issue. For over a century, Vicksburg, Mississippi refused to celibate the Fourth (according to legend---some did usually) due to the siege during the Civil War.

But has America become so unamerican for some that they really won't celebrate Independence Day this year? What have other people heard and are you going to skip it this year?

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! LOL!

"America is not America" because the Constitution was shown to protect the rights and freedoms of MORE citizens?
"America is not America" because South Carolina FREELY CHOOSE to remove a symbol (to some) of hatred and intolerance from the property where laws are made, yet we are all FREE to fly it on our cars, our homes, in stores, buildings, billboards, and ANYWHERE else we want? And because some businesses FREELY CHOOSE to discontinue some product lines?

Really?

These people need to get a life!

I usually don't celebrate holidays anyway, so there will be no changes for me or anyone I know... but I have had a few celebrations in the past week in regards to the SC ruling. To suggest this isn't America anymore and refuse to celebrate our INDEPENDENCE is just the action of a bunch of spoiled brats who didn't get their way.

Not from the USA,but I would have thought the total corporate/pharma takeover and the out of control military industrial complex is what is spoiling modern day America.

Have a good 4th of July anyhow.

Hate to burst the America Is Not America bubble, but this is a fake holiday to begin with. America has never been and will never be an independent nation. It has been and always will be a corporation owned by the English monarchy and Vatican. I have not celebrated any such holiday for 30 years since I woke up and saw the truth.

I don't know of anyone who is not celebrating the 4th in some way.

I might even have a beer!

Here in the UK we celebrate the 5th to show how lucky we are.

There are multiple reasons why people say the US is not the US anymore . Look around .The US has and continues to be overran by globalization. Our country and what it stood for is being rapidly absorbed by the rest of the world. 10 years or so from now , we will look back and see that instead of the nation that was the US , we will be the US State of the World. Good or bad , I dont know. But it is happening.

Actually we try , but from our side we are changing to other countries' lifestyles. Not setting the precedent , accepting .

If people want to not celebrate the 4th of July,
who does it hurt?
No one

Do I care, no, why should I?

People protest stuff all the time in the US.
That is their right and privilege as US citizens.

There is no law compelling people to celebrate the 4th of July,
so who cares?

There is no law compelling people to love the US,
most people don't from time to time,
even liberals/progressives/and socialists.
So, no biggie
No big deal.

There are hurting no one,
and by their lack of presence.
Well, honestly, I don't think anyone will notice.

So I give this issue a huge
Don't care
and
Why on earth would anyone care?

I'm going to drink some beer and grill myself a steak. Other than that it's just another day to me.

I think I'll just stay home. I hate crowds. Maybe I'll make my own fireworks and shoot cans or something. As for celebrating vs not celebrating, meh. Maybe when the government works for the people again instead of corporations I'll care.
