www.cbsnews.com...

So you spent your Saturday night watching videos of Nala cat or Henri. Don't feel embarrassed: you might have been doing something good for yourself.

A new study in the journal Computers in Human Behavior surveyed 7,000 people via social media about their viewing of cat videos and how it affects their moods. Thirty-six percent of participants described themselves as a "cat person" and 60 percent said they liked both cats and dogs.

Participants in the study reportedly had fewer negative emotions such as anxiety, sadness and annoyance after watching cat videos, even when they viewed Internet cats at work or while studying. The pleasure they got from watching cat videos seemed to outweigh any guilt they felt about procrastinating.

Okay, now maybe they do make you laugh and maybe they are cute and fluffy and furry and maybe they do the silliest little things to put a smile on your face, but do they really improve your health? I will admit they might give a distraction from every day stress, other videos can do that too, right?

I just found it rather "curious" that cats were the focus, still the 7000 sampling they used in their survey seems rather small comparatively to the overall population and I would love to know what they used for their criteria to make such a bold statement, oh wait, they said,"Cat videos may be good for your health".

I think I will just post some for you and let me know if you feel any improvement in your health, of course health can be both mental and physical, and one might help the other I suppose, maybe it is possible for there to be long term effects without the immediate results being noticed.

Oh hell, who cares, watch them any way take what you get out of them and just have a great day either way, okay? I did have an epiphany of sorts just now, you know when you are thinking about posting an OP that can be on a volatile subject and it might bring out the beast in people that respond, maybe if your OP started with a cute little kitty cat video they would be less inclined to be so argumentative and combative and they might just get distracted a bit and let their guard down long enough to absorb what it was you were trying to say in the most important part of your OP, you know instead of reading the Headline and just reacting.

They may be like what the heck, you gave us a headline that said the World Is Going To End at Midnight and you are posting a silly cat video...oh will she is so cute and by the way I love you and I hope you survive that impending doom and boom. Instead of here is your tin foil hat or why all the doom porn or blah blah blah. Then again who needs an epiphany anyway when you have these adorable, cute, little, fuzzy, furry creatures to break the monotony of the doom and gloom crowd.

Ooops, sorry, gotta go...you will have to find those videos on your own....would you all be so kind as to assist me...find a video of whatever floats your boat and feel free to share with us all...I am sure we could use some healthy distractions!
Just kidding I will post a few to get us started, then you are on your own!

And when cats purr, the frequencies they emit can help heal cells and bones.
This info could be used to help astronaughts stay healthy in space!
Although I doubt that means they will take cats with them.

How cool is that?

I took my Jakie in to the vets the other week and the Vet (A South African dude really good with Jake) told me that domestic cats are kept juvenile by being domesticated and continue to purr all their lives when a wild cat will only purr when young and with their mother.
But they can turn the domestication on and off unlike a dog.
Oh and cats in space? must and should happen for all Kitty kind!.

Who needs cat videos-I get a live performance every day. The leading actor is asleep at the moment.

Pets have proven to be a great help in nursing homes-the companionship does wonders for the residents. I don't know what makes cats so amusing-perhaps it's the complete disregard for logic and purrsonal safety.

"What are you doing Numbskull?

"Don't mind me master-i'm just trying to climb this wall and backflip at the same time."

"Ok then...carry on."

Thats interesting about being able to switch on or off their domestication BM,
Sort of proves how cats own their humans, rather than how humans own their dogs.
Although I have had dogs which have been master manipulators.
Cats are clever little animals aren't they?

I have a vastly different purrspective of cats, I can say without a doubt that one saved my life, so my personal health has benefited from having one, but the OP is about videos and their effect.

Do you think everyone owns a cat? Perhaps those that don't can benefit from watching a video, have one to post of your precious kitty? If not, maybe you could contribute one that you find suitable?
