Colored powder caught fire in a park in Taiwan's New Taipei city on Saturday, injuring at least 500 among thousands of young people at a themed party.

Burn victims lay on inflatable pool rings at the Formosa Fun Coast recreational park as they waited for stretchers, footage on cable network TVBS showed. Some 510 people were hospitalized, of whom 183 were in intensive care, the Ministry of Health & Welfare said in a statement on Sunday.

Over 500 injured in powder fire at dance party in Taiwan amusement Park

A big concert at a water park turned disastrous when colored powder being sprayed from the stage caught fire.

This is heart breaking and a tragedy.

Burn injuries are very dangerous, and heal very slowly. If at all.

I would link a picture of the dance floor afterwards, and some of the injured ... but ... so much blood.

One guy was being carried out by his friends on a floaty and you could see the skin hanging off the bottom of his feet.

O M G

My hopes go out to all the injured.

This couple was able to make a statement after getting treatment. I don't speak the language but they look like they are still experiencing shock. Now I have to go have a cry.

Omg.....

That is terrifying!

Fire plus massive amounts of people running is a recipe for disaster.
I fear there will be a high death toll after all is said and done.

Sawmills and grain elevators come to mind as dusty things that go boom.
I really feel for those poor kids.

The powder ignited along the ground and mainly burned people's lower bodies, Wang Wei-sheng, a liaison with the New Taipei City fire department command center, told the Associated Press. He said 516 people were reported to have burn injuries by Sunday morning.

What a terrible place to get burned while on a date, you gotta think that the type of fabric people were wearing played a big part in the severity of their burns.

Many dusts are explosive.
OSHA uses this incident as part of their training now.

I'd say all dusts are, when aerosolised.

The video I posted is coffee creamer exploding into a ball of flame.

Add enough oxygen and boom...500 people are scarred for life

Could have been set off by a random smoker.

Horrific as it is, i was at a AC?DC concert (got caught in a mosh pit) and i thought that was the end of me. Scary stuff indeed. No fire, but much crushing and me fighting like a mad man to get the hell out of it.. I hate to think what those guys were going through when that powder ignited. scary stuff indeed.

Going by that gasball explosion on the left and then the flames coming up from the ground, it looks like someone spilled oil or some other flammable liquid on the ground. If it had been a powder explosion, their faces would have been burnt.

Looks like an oil tank exploded.
