What If...

What if
We woke up from our stupor
And realized
The hypnotizing
Rage inducing
Hate enticing
Shock promoting
Label attaching
People dividing
Sense draining
Slavery
Of the
“News”

What if
You didn’t click on that
Post, link, tweet, feed
That is telling you how wrong
Something that a man has done to fellow man is
Enticing you into another lurid rabbit hole

What if
For a day
A week
A month
A year?
No one had access
To divisive, sensationalistic, horrifying breaking news
To juicy, exciting, scandalous details
And gossipy hearsay

What if
We rediscovered
Common sense
Reason
And the basic humanity
That is in there, somewhere

What if we
left judgment at the door
And came in with a clear conscience
Non-prejudice
A forgiving heart
Maybe a smile on our faces
Ready to sit down
As the adults we like to pretend we are
And talk
And listen
Maybe over a cuppa
Or a pint?

What if
The “opponent” also has a story to tell
What if
We understood “them”
What if
Honest mutual respect
Helped us take the blindfolds off our eyes
And together we’d realize we’ve all been just as equally
Deluded
Misguided
Enslaved
Brainwashed

What if
We refused to repeat
What if
We let the past be what it is

Aaaarghhhhh!

Very well done. I like it a lot and it captures some of my own sentiments as well.

To answer your question......people would go back to the way they are. Strength in numbers doesn't apply here. That is to say, it doesn't matter if everyone had those epiphanies, they still won't want to face those truths.

I get you, but....
what if, for no matter how short a period of time, people did 'wake up'
The uncomfortable truth implanted in them
I'd like to think that maybe that would give the boulder a nudge
and slowly, slowly
it would start rolling

But maybe I'm just too much of an idealistic romantic that way?

Maybe you are, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's an attribute more peopke need.

I just think that people have had "moments of clarity", you call it waking up, but choose to ignore it.

Maybe I'm just too much of a jaded realist that way.

I can imagine your 'rant' as a rap in 8/8 time. Very cool. Thought-provoking, and that's always a good thing.

EMP is your friend.

I'd give up all tech and internet etc. for the chance for us all to start again.

Just sayin.

i wouldn't be so frustrated with the world if i stopped:

- watching the news
- read about reality television stars and how much money they spend on shoes
- looking at forums that i know will elicit a negative reaction.
- listen to news radio
- carrying my phone with me everywhere i go
- using technology for entertainment

the list can go on. you know when i go hiking or camping for a few days, i'm happy and relaxed. i believe it's because i'm not tied into the world through technology. when i unplug i find life to be good. technology has become such an intricate part of our lives we are forgetting our humanity. i say all this and look at me, on a conspiracy website where i know i will read a thread that will make me feel crabby. *sigh*

Yeah the only way out seems to go back to unspoilt nature, or what's left of it.
Because just consciously 'unplugging' for a while one is still surrounded by fools and bigots and their unconscious spreading of idiocy and hate, not that they realise it

i can see your point.
for myself i rarely watch television. been almost a year since i dropped cable and i like it. it was hard at first. the habit to turn on the television was strong. many people leave the television on during meal time. i never understood that. i don't normally carry my phone with me. i always feel someone is listening to me through the phone. outlandish idea? yes it is. but i can't seem to shake the feeling that someone is listening through the phone. technology for all the good it can bring also carries with it a burden of over stimulation and mind numbing distractions.

Other means would be employed, actually they are.

Fact is, not much would change, we would be just as controlled, through other means, and have less technology.

Assuming you are referring to TPTB, the 1% or whatever we like to call them, in my post I refer to mankind as a whole.
I think those who are in 'control' are just as deluded and trapped in their roles as the rest of us.
