In the day of Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and jet bombers, open warfare is not exclusively ground and pound.

True to some extent but it takes ground troops to finish the last 33% of the war. As recently as Libya, if the rebels were not doing the fighting then air war would only be good for taking out tanks and APCs. That was against puny third world antiquated army of Libya.

Against Russia that would not be possible. Getting total air superiority alone will take 3 months and until then Russian armor will be in downtowns of many ex-Warsaw and some NATO countries. That is why, NATO wants to fight wars in the nations which it cares for only as a weekend mistress when the wife is on the "hostile" mode.

Reporters that are imbedded with US military forces are subject to the UCMJ. Military contractors are also subject.

And held their ground. Russia knows it has two elements besides a superpower army in reserve. The Russian winter, and 11 time zones.

Both of which contributed to Hitlers and Napolean's demise.

All Russia has to do is sit back and let NATO come. Deeper and deeper, stretching supply lines and expending reserves like the surf pounding on the shoreline.

If Russia attacks first, which they won't.

Defending their country is a) legal, and b) tactically easier than retaking Europe. What you are suggesting is a repeat of how WWII went down. The same result this time, too.

I wonder if NATO will be so stupid to think they can survive Russian winters with summer equipment?

The really amusing part is how people would like us to believe the Department of Defense is within their constitutional edict defending the US realm thousands of miles from the, uhhh… Realm.

If its inside the continental US its defense; outside, it becomes offensive.

Precisely. But the Russians know their territory is damn near indefensible so they always get real creative when defending Russia. They are a double threat, the west really needs to brush up on their history. Putin said it best, Russia never has been and never will be subdued. If a war does break out they will claim victory the same way they always have.

I would beg to differ here. You should look at the modern wars fought by US starting with 1991. First USAF bombs the enemy forces heavily even if it take weeks and months and only then the ground invasion begins.

Russia's best defenses are in making sure that NATO does not cancel out the Russian offensive capabilities. That means, Russian missile should still be able to reach in the NATO countries by defeating the ABM systems of any level of advancements. Russia has to be able to negate the PGS Prompt Global Strike doctrine of NATO and reply with much force. One way to do that is to do a scenario where 100s Russian missiles loaded are also hidden in unknown places even if that means in China or North Korea.

Each ICBM costs around $10-50m. So Putin has to make sure that $5B of looted money from Kremlin treasury is brought back from Cyprus, Switzerland and Bahamas and put for use in a "sure response" that guarantees that PGS is negated as an option.

As a matter of fact the president can send the military where ever he or she chooses. Congress is responsible for the purse strings.

NATO has hold on Eastern Europe, not "Putin", for one. Separation of powers and checks and balances are for the three legislation branches in the American government to check and balance each other, not "Putin".

The Judicial, Legislative and Executive branches of the United States Government prevent any one of them from getting total power to do stupid stuff like make war with foreign nations for no good reason. The Russians haven't done anything except posture their forces to counter the US, EU (NATO) forces on their border.

Considering Russia and china have space based weaponry and have threatened its use in their propaganda its only right the US respond. Just as Russian abrasion towards Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, the Baltics and eastern European countries forced a response from the west there.

Russians really do have that nazi mentality now a days don't they. Makes me sad since I have relatives there. They going backwards instead of forwards. Hate gets you no where and just puts the whole culture into the dark ages. Because it's not just restricted to gays. I've been there alot and I can tell you there is becoming a hatred of Muslims and we'll anyone not Russian really.

homosexuality is still treated as a mental illness in china. although it's been off the list of official mental illnesses since 1997.

it's one of the reasons russian and Chinese citizens get on so well. and china sees the west as crazy.

it's definately seems to be the key reason pro western government's in the ukraine never got much above 10% approval ratings.

don't think it has much to do with the politics tho. one way or the other the people are being sold rich people stealing from poor people. east or west.

NATO would have total air dominance in less than 4 days against Russia. When Russia has no air power they will loose their tanks and apc's really fast, forcing them into a full retreat. This is when Putin will launch the first Tactical Nukes and then later ICBMs if NATO does advance into Russia proper. Moscow is close to the western border and they will defend it with every thing they have.

In 2001 china changed that homosexuality is no longer a mental disorder. They have also legalized homosexuality in china it's no longer against the law. So guess china doesn't agree with you. In fact they even allow cohabitation and recognize the relationship. Don't allow marriage yet but do recognize every other aspect as legal. So apparently you need to update you bigoted opinions and join the rest of the world in the 21st century. No one cares about gays well accept you.
