Gang/Domestic Terrorism - Where's the help?!

I read this article recently from the LA times talking about the growing problem of gang crime among the poor and destitute:

I realized something, domestic terrorism in the form of gang crime in particular is much more of an immediate problem than the wild speculations of foreign terrorism.

Here are some snippets from the article:

When the LAPD set up a police kiosk in Jordan to quell rising crime, the gangs blew it up; the LAPD left and did not return for more than a decade.

Schools near these complexes boast 70% dropout rates, violence-related lockdowns and children with post-traumatic stress disorder levels as high as those seen in civil wars.

How does our Homeland Security get away with ignoring such blatant crimes occuring across our country?

Shouldn't our focus instead be on this gang violence that effects millions of people everyday?

Why should it be the responsibility of Homeland Security? First of all, you do realize that if HS were to get involved at all, there would be a group here that would be screaming loudly about concentration camps, Bush is Hitler, our civil liberties are being eroded, the constitution is being banned, etc., etc. Don't you?

These problems need to be fixed at the local level. As long as parents give up raising their kids, due to drugs, booze, or whatever, as long as kids don't know who their daddy is and turn to gangs as a substitute, these problems will continue. The family unit and community influence on these young thugs is gone; their major influence is gangsta now.

It's been that way for years & years - one of the dirty little secrets that even tourist don't realize exists - unless god forbid they get lost in the wrong neighborhood. Even 30 years ago girls were afraid to use the bathrooms in the schools, because they were often raped there during school hours. Kids would be stabbed for their leather jacket or shoes on the way to school. It's like a completely different world there. All they seem to do is build more prisons for them and throw more money at it. You almost have to sacrifice a generation or two & just clamp down hard in a military type fashion - but the libs in CA would never go for that.

outsider, your gangsta culture gets marketed all over the world. Those culturally apt foreigners, up to probably age 35, know exactly what Compton and Watts are all about. Sure not everyone will know, and there would be tons more places just like them that don't appear in John Singleton movies or get rapped about on Snoop Doggs albums, but it's enough awareness to do some research.

Your point stands well. But foreigners are probably more cluey about your country than you think.

Extra extramarital kids looks like a large occurance in these hoods, something that bounds to lead to a troubled future for these kids, there is a lot to blame on the white man, but one thing for sure, we didn't make them kids .

Maybe welfare should give bonus for not having kids instead of having handing out money for supporting 6 kids of different fathers?

The great problem of sexual promiscuity in the ghettos (yeah I said ghetto) and the susequent children born from those unions could be effectively erased. Create a private or public program that allows the women and men to get surgically sterilized at no cost until they are ready to get married and have children that they want. Sure it seems inhuman, but is the life that is being forced upon the accidental/unwanted children any less inhuman? No.
