Then you are going to have to produce some scientific literature to back up you position that it is a genetic abnormality to not want children, otherwise it just looks you are insulting us for not believing as you do.

I think we both agree that procreation is genetically driven. If you agree than I don't know why you would send that response. Abnormality as in not normal.

If I wanted to insult you I would say by current biological definition you are not LIFE, you don't display the same characteristics attributed to observed life ( MRSGREN)

I'm not looking for a consensus here. You made a claim that is generally insulting to people who don't want children, so if it is true, then you need to produce some scientific literature to corroborate your claims. Otherwise it looks like you are just talking out your ass because it sounds legit. What you or I agree on is irrelevant in the face of evidence. I certainly don't think genetics is driving me to not want children. My belief is that my rationality allows me to override instincts just like how it is able to do that for other instincts.

An opinion. That's all. You have the right to feel insulted. Either way if it was a scientific study on it they would attribute it to hormonal changes, which I, as in me, my opinion, would attribute to genes which dictate the secretion of hormones. You would also find it insulting that you would not be LIFE, but you know you are and it's just a definition that doesn't take into account socio-environmental causality.

If it help relieve the annomosity I'm talking out my ass.

I wouldn't worry about it too much rossacus...most people here on ATS could talk out of their arses professionally...myself included.

And you continue to ignore the obvious answer that I've said several times now. Humans, through rational thought, can ignore animal instincts and do that quite regularly.

That's a given. Why do you keep mentioning that. If your using that as a justification to end the evolution of your direct genetic lineage with you than fair enough. I will speak on your behalf when I say your grateful your mother doesn't share the same views, or her mum, or her mum to the power of 10 going back billions of years. That's your rational thought and yiu are entitled to it. Like I say I can't think like that (obviously). Too much effort has gone on before me. I feel I, as in me, would be selfish in making this choice ( no way directed at you, talking about how I see my self, evolution and the world). All I would say it's a shame.

Oh doesn't bother me. Only bothers me when people feel you have to state it's your opinion, when it obviously is, seeing I typed it. People struggle to debate without taking stuff personally.

If my mother or father or any of my ancestors shared my views then I wouldn't exist and wouldn't be alive to lament not existing. So I think that is a moot point.

So I'm envisioning it ...

So suppose they randomly kill off all the people who know how to operate the operational nuclear power plants in an area? Oops!

So suppose they accidentally kill off enough people in a area where deadly epidemic plagues get a foothold and those plagues sweep through the remaining population killing a whole lot more? Oops!

Suppose you wind up killing off yourself? Oops!

Somehow, I never think these scenarios are all that well thought out.

That's because it is the equivalent of giving up and saying "Well the population is too large to change anything for the better. Throw the switch!" It's really just the easy way out.

It's the whole point. Nothing more nothing less. After a billion years you've actively, not by inability but desire , decided not to have children. Fair enough. I honestly can't comprehend the active choice. And just to clarify, I said genetic abnormalities/dispositions compounded by social environment. Doesn't mean there is a non baby making gene. Has millions of possible reasons why you have derived at your conclusion.

Sorry OP I will stop now and not respond. You may have the last say Krazysh0t.

Always chose the 7.5 billion. Why?

Because the reality is, there is enough space and resources for billions and billions more of us. There always will be.

Especially as our technology advances. We'll have better cities. Take New York city or Mexico City. If you were to start from scratch and plan a city that could house tens of millions f people, you wouldn't plan it that way. These cities are based on old technology and old ideas.

Research how much excess food the United states produces and ships off every year and how much of that food rots in other places. It's stunning. The oceans are so full of water. There is enough space and enough resources. We just need to find the will to provide it to everyone.

That's horrible.

I love my husband, my son and my father. I also tend to prefer the company of men to women. Men are generally sane and a lot more fun to be around.
