Hmmm....the 'many talented amateur astronomers all over the world' and 'thousands of professional astronomers' missed the Chelyabinsk meteor which hit Russia in Feb. 2013.

Geez what do you wanna hear? that an asteroid is gonna hit? Ok lets say it does hit, a 15 mile wide asteroid, what you gonna do? You are dead, does it matter? What system do you know of that is 100 percent perfect, 100 percent of the time?

The occasional rock sneaks up on us, sometimes its due to a small size, and other times it's due to the direction that it is coming from. The sun produces a significant "blind spot" that makes some objects, especially very small objects, such as the Chelyabinsk meteor in particular... very hard to spot.

I spy with my little eye, something beginning with...ES.

If I remember correctly, the Chelyabinsk meteor coincided, to the very day, with a fast moving near earth object coming from the opposite direction, right?

Lots of astronomers were in fact trained on the NEO at the time, plus it was very small, size of a bus? Hardly extinction level event material.

No, I don't want to hear an asteroid is going to hit. It's just the fact that most on here are so quick to defend NASA and how accurate and forthcoming they are. They didn't even see the meteor which hit Russia in 2013 which was @20 meters in size (65 ft.). Yet they say they detect a piece of VW sized space junk. Sorry, I just don't buy everything that NASA says, nor do I buy all doom porn rumors on the net. I'm sure nothing will happen, but I don't believe that just because NASA says so.

most of the really detailed videos online about a pending event are based on biblical prophecy not actual sighting in the sky

Space junk travels in predictable orbits though, quite close to the earth. Space rocks can come from any direction, at any speed, much harder to track I think.

Ever seen panic when it comes to humans, they act in a weird way, if panics sets in of a 65 feet asteroid how would you think the would react when it defines their whole existence, meaning over a billion people. Over 75 million americans will be affected, we all die thats a fact. But for me as a Scandinavian this is natural, we have known this "secret" for a long time. We just let it play out thats why we arent apart of anything except helping others.. It is about death and dying, it is about fear and the unknown.. Its about soemthing that will turn your world upside down, but you wont die from it. But fear makes panic in humans, and panic will not do good.

I know of no system that is 100 percent perfect, 100 percent of the time. This includes NASA then. So when they say "Nasa knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small. In fact, as best as we can tell, no large object is likely to strike the Earth any time in the next several hundred years." The words 'currently' and 'as best as we can tell' leaves wiggle room for them to change their minds tomorrow if they want, which for them to declare "no large object is likely to strike the Earth any time in the next several hundred years" is a mighty bold statement. Nature is unpredictable.

We all have to look at the bright side.....It gives us all something to talk about.
