Maybe American police should stop behaving like violent thugs. The reason they do is because most people defend their actions. They now just accept this is the way the cops work. Go freedom USA

Their is really only 1 person responsible for this and that is the waste of flesh drunk and drug user that caused this problem.

As is usually the case lots of arm chair officers on ATS stating how simple it should have been to control this guy. Next time those people get out from behind the keyboard go ahead and film your approach when you are handling this situation.

Don't get me me wrong , their is a % of the police force, like any profession, that are criminals. I hope every corrupt officer faces the maximum penalty the law can throw at them. If anything the punishment for being corrupt in a position of power should be even more a extreme. That doesn't mean that society has their responsibility in creating situations like this removed from them.

Maybe Brits needs to stop believing everything they see on YouTube and ATS as being the commonplace in the U.S.

There are thousands upon thousands of civilian/police interactions any given day that have either a) zero force involved or b) an entirely justified level of force used. Either way, situations of excessive force are not the majority.

But to hear people like you talk, every time a cop talks to somebody they're getting beaten and/or shot.

Ludicrous and ignorant.

The videos of what really goes on in America are not shown on the media because they don't fit the victimization propaganda and they are even banned on sites like this because they are deemed racist or the comments on them will be deemed racist. We can't talk about a whole major section of problems that plague the US.

Go to liveleak for a day and watch the videos from the US. You'll get a more accurate representation of what really occurs here.

I think you missed the point of my post. It was not an attack on you, but rather to point out that those the police brutalize, become whatever the police and media need them to be in order to justify the brutality. This guy may be 100% guilty of everything said about him, but I'm not willing to make that judgement based on a youtube video, or a huffpost article.

Maaaayn, US cops are rubbish. They should hire rodeo Cowboys. They would have had that guy lassoed and trussed up in seconds. all they would need was a large wooden pole to carry him off to jail.

A man high on meth fought off more than a dozen police officers as they tried to arrest him for allegedly masturbating in a bar. Andrew Frey, 37, later told authorities that he had taken methamphetamine the day before and had no recollection of the events at Iggy’s Bar and Grill in Salem, Oregon. The Oregonian reported that deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s office received reports of a man behaving bizarrely at around 1pm on 22 December. The man, identified as Frey, had allegedly called a locksmith and allegedly refused to pay the worker for his services, officials said. Frey is then reported to have wandered over to a nearby shopping centre and refused to leave until an employee escorted him off the property. He then made his way to Iggy's Bar & Grill, where a bartender claims Frey exposed his genitals and began masturbating in front of the bar. By the time a deputy arrived on scene, Frey had moved from the bar to the bathroom, but reportedly had not stopped pleasuring himself. Frey resisted force and the deputy then shot him with a Taser multiple times, officials said. But the Taser had no effect on Frey, who started fighting with the deputy. It reportedly took at least 15 officers, responding from various forces around the area, to get Frey under control and arrest him. Frey was later charged with public indecency, resisting arrest and theft.

TLDR tweakers are like those on pcp. what would stop a sober person only enrages them and makes them fight harder,and often those on drugs are borderline immune to tazers

Just make sure you apply the accusation of excessive force only when true. I'll withhold judgment on this one, because when my mom was an actual EMT and rode on the ambulances, she witnessed a guy get shot several times in the chest and still keep running at officers and begin assaulting one of them before he died, injuring the officer pretty severely.

The guy was on PCP and had been shot directly through his heart, but was still able to keep running and fighting.

Don't disregard the fact that someone may be fighting back who may be on drugs--they can be extremely dangerous and almost pull off things that should seem impossible for the human body to do. This possibility is why, often times, officers use force that ensures someone will stay down or remain subdued--they have no way of knowing, and anyone resisting detainment could be that guy on PCP that can withstand a bullet through the heart long enough to injure (and possibly kill) the officer.

Take time out from your busy schedule and research the good things that American police officers do, then speak with intelligence and not ignorance. One rotten orang in a 5-lb bag does not mean the rest need to be considered rotten as well.

I do, however, agree that other tactics can get better results at times, but it is relatively obvious from this video that (A) the dude was not going to submit, and (B) something was causing him to shrug off the effects of a taser and multiple blows from blunt objects. No matter your opinion on the actions of the cops, that's not the behavior of a normal, sober human being.

Maybe it took 15 officers to subdue the man because they weren't beating him senseless? The original two officers made no attempt to restrain him until the others showed up. Later when they finally do get him under control, an overzealous officer continues beating his head, neck and arms. The suspect was wrong and the officers took the wrong approach. God forbid anyone gets a second chance at life.
