The Obama administration has asked a secret surveillance court to ignore a federal court that found bulk surveillance illegal and to once again grant the National Security Agency the power to collect the phone records of millions of Americans for six months.

The legal request, filed nearly four hours after Barack Obama vowed to sign a new law banning precisely the bulk collection he asks the secret court to approve, also suggests that the administration may not necessarily comply with any potential court order demanding that the collection stop.

Two Faced Much ?

US officials confirmed last week that they would ask the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court – better known as the Fisa court, a panel that meets in secret as a step in the surveillance process and thus far has only ever had the government argue before it – to turn the domestic bulk collection spigot back on.

Secret court eh ?

My thoughts

"Creation" Created man ,Thus having ownership over man ,Man created law ,Thus having ownership over law . So how can law have ownership over man ?

do we have ownership over creation ?

No court shall decide my fate, or dictate my actions .

When more people understand this then more people will know they are the free man .

You are not bound by any man made laws governing your sovereign persons .

Oh and Here is a big finger to administration!

Whaaaaaat? They want to keep it going?? And are using a secret court to try and do so??? And have implied that they may just not give enough of a damn about the court's decision to stop anyway?!?!!

I'm SHOCKED I tell you! Absolutely SHOCKED!

Said no one ever.

Give the man another Nobel piece prize cuz he is one PIECE of work!

Impeach his ass before we are beyond repair. Joe can't possibly be worse for the remainder of the term.

Republicans will take the WH, NOT because they earned it but because Obama is giving it away with his actions.

Dems won't even have Obama speak on their behalf on the campaign trail. They can't get far enough away from him!

Hope and Change, huh...

a reply to: Kapusta As I read it, The USA Freedom Act, which is replacing The Patriot Act, allowed for a 6 month transition period to wind down the bulk collections. In the meantime, an appeals court ruled that the bulk collection was 'not relevant' but also said it would not issue an injunction and would defer to the USA Freedom Act process pending. It appears the government is trying to make sure the 6 month transition period remains in place. That would...uphold the Freedom Act iin total. The President said he would support the stoppage of the bulk collection, but there isn a 6 month period allotted for it to slow down and stop in the USA Freedom Act. I imagine they need time to reassign the people that go through and collect this information? He did not ask that it continue indefinitely.

Agreed, I'm not shocked either.

How about outraged?

You don't need to be shocked to be pissed off at the constitution shredding this administration continues to get away with.

a reply to: Sremmos80 All I see is that the Justice Dept. Security Chief cited this 6 month transition period as being in the USA Freedom act. There is no source in the Guradian article, the only original source I can find.

Curious.,

To those of you who voted Obama into office either the first or second term , knowing what you now know about his policies and presidency, and in light of the info provided in this OP, would you vote him into office again...if it were possible?

a reply to: Ultralight Yes. And I want to add that the information provided by the OP is more complicated than it looks. See my prior post. McCain with the possibility of Palin becoming president had the man had a heart attack? Mitt Romney? I would do it over and over and over again.

Now that is the question isn't it?

You know what would have been different? A majority of the Democratic Party would be OPPOSED to this kind of crap and the Huffington Compost would be promoting story after story of how the evil Republicans are ruining America....

Oh, never mind, it is Obama.... Our Guy.....we won't say or do much except cover and run interference.

So, the press would actually do their job? That would be different

Mad love for this post. Not for what 0bama is doing, but for your take on it.

I'm not a religious guy, but we are all born of nature, and there isn't a man on earth that can trump nature.

I might pretend to follow laws publicly, but I break every law I can think of (aside from injuring another) every chance I get.

I have no respect for anyone that thinks they have authority over another.

The debate stops if someone thinks the government should use force against me, or others on their behalf. They're just as sick and twisted as the ones doing the enFORC(E)ing.

At this point you'd be wasting your time blaming Obama or Bush because no matter whose in office this agenda will continue. They're called the shadow govt and they want their shadow court to over look the people's court and continue running their shadow spy ring.

Don't fall for it by blaming the fall guy, we all gotta look deeper and find the people behind the curtains pulling the strings.

Yes sir. None of these puppets are smart enough to be this diabolical.

We've had two guys in row "representing" us that turn to absolute mush if the teleprompter craps out.

0bama and Bush are both blithering idiots. Perfect guys to execute whatever plan "they" have in place.

While I don't "blame" either one of them, I do despise them, because they are the face of the elite. They represent everything I hate.
