Has the whole world gone mad? What is going on? This is not a rhetorical question....really, what is this all about?! Why are they pushing this?

The brain is not even fully developed until the mid 20's! Some studies have shown that 70%-80% of kids who had expressed transgendered feelings "spontaneously lost those feelings" over time.

Dr Carmichael said it was 'better' for children not to have gone through puberty before 'transitioning'. But she added: 'You are asking someone aged as young as 11 to make big decisions about their adult life and identity. We have to be very careful to keep options open.'

Transgender children?

If that's true, it's child abuse.

There was a thread just a few weeks ago about a 5 year old child being prepared for a change, because the parents claimed that at just TWO YEARS OLD the child was expressing the wish to change sex.

The parents should be locked up, and those who help them.

It's not really worth the risk in my opinion. A transgender person can have a stellar transition (and I mean absolutely flawless) even if they wait until they are 18 (even older sometimes). While it's true that it's easier to correct the hormones (as in undergo hormone therapy) during the onset of puberty, a child can live as the correct gender without treatment and simply wait a few years.

If my child of 12 was transgender, I'd support and make their life as easy as possible and that child would simply be their corrected gender but I'd delay hormonal treatment for a few years unless something made me have a change of heart. It's just too much of a diminishing returns vs risk at that point.

Found it

A two year old verbalizes that her sexual identity is in question and the parents have a "family therapy team" for her in place at age 4?

This article isn't even from the US. This is about some place in London.

Your bias is showing. So is your lack of attention to detail.

Apologies.

"European" progressives, they want your children.

I guess it's not covered by Obamacare.

As for bias?

Yup.

I read that and the first thing I thought of was the US weenie-progressive movement doing this.

Much better, thank you.

I just want to make sure you're bashing the correct group of people. That way nobody gets jealous.

Some parents won't let their kids get a tattoo until they are 18 years of age.
I am one of those parents.

Good. Free will of children should be respected in more areas of society. After all, the decisions one makes in those years will shape one's entire life. At least this way, if they don't like the way they turn out, they can own it.

The real problem is if adults are putting undue influence on kids to make decisions like this. That is an entirely separate issue than the availability of the treatment.

Are you a parent?

I agree 12 is too early to start taking hormones from a mental standpoint. As far as best results if you will then yes you want to take them earlier, earlier the better really. Its almost a gamble so young, I suppose the parents could look at it like not wanting their child to blame them if they don't start HRT early enough to prevent the opposite hormones to even kick in. Saying to the child "is this really what you want?" child saying "yes, yes, yes" it becomes a point of making the child happy with the ultimate risk of them changing their minds.

I have a theory about at least some of the cases of post transition regret and worsened depression. What I think happens is the individual is not happy with the results of the finished process of their transition thus worse depression sometimes suicide. They may have had delusions of grandeur as to what they would look like after it is all said and done then been sorely disappointed. This is why starting hormones as early as possible is a big deal for those of us that are serious and committed to this hard road. Most people in the trans community start researching it as soon as they are old enough to know and accept they are different.

Nowadays kids are so in tune with technology some having smart phones way to early. Its not hard for them to look up the subject and make decisions about it.

It's sick, and abuse, as far as I am concerned. I read a news story about a kid younger than that who supposedly wanted to change, and he was being raised by (bet you can guess) an all-female couple. But, sure, it was all his idea, right? Not! How this is even legal, I can't imagine. Kids have no idea at that age. Pre-puberty, sex shouldn't even be an issue at all for them.

Huh?

I did a lot of dumb stuff when I was a kid that I wish I could take back.. Imagine wanting to take gender reassignment back.

By that logic, a kid should be able to walk into a tattoo shop and get a nice face tattoo.
