Greetings, I'm Vakanain

Hello. I've never been good with introductory threads, and this one is perhaps one of the harder intros I've tried my hand at due to the nature or rather focus of these forums, the whole conspiracy sort of thing. I found ATS just today after googling 'ufo forum'. So obviously I'm here trying to get answers or at least theories to a couple things I've seen, but needing 20 posts before I can post a thread and my relative ignorance of this sort of subject matter it's going to take me a while to try and sort things out here. But after 12/13 years quietly wondering about two strange things I suppose I can tackle the challenge and come up with 20 hopefully helpful and useful posts here somewhere, although the sheer size and breadth of this site makes it feel daunting. I'm not exactly a believer, nor a skeptic either. I'm one of those in the middle, unsure people who can honestly say "I don't know". Hopefully I'll have more to offer than that.

I'm not the best of witnesses, no video or photographic evidence, no special degrees (just an associate's), no 'in the know' job, just a standard guy who saw something a couple of times and finally worked up the nerve to try and look into it. But I'm sure I'm a dime a dozen here at a place like this, someone trying to find maybe just two or three answers to what at first appears to be the great unanswerable questions, so it's not so bad knowing there's bound to be others in this boat. As I said, I'm neither believer nor denier, and I'm not exactly the type to go one way or the other. I know I'm not likely to get it, but I'm after the truth and I won't commit to any view points easily, seeking all possibilities and only making up my mind if I feel I've got something close to the truth if not the truth itself.

So, that's the best sort of introduction I've really got in me. Hope to have pleasant and meaningful discussions here, and thank you for your time!

By the way, is there a multi-quote function hidden somewhere hopefully? I've been using cut and paste.

I'd rather not for an intro thread. I don't know, doesn't seem proper maybe? But keep an eye out at the UFOs/Aliens section and I'll make a thread as soon as I can detailing them (pretty sure one was a drone, but unlike any drone I know of today). I'm not online during the weekends though and I've only a couple more hours online today.

Phage is a member whom is quite popular on ATS for his expertise in astronomical issues and his/her avatar is John Lithgow ala Back to the Future. There are no pledge pins. I was thinking of Nedermeir in "Animal House".PEACE.

It wasn't really astronomical, more aircraft related in the middle of the day. And I haven't really seen Animal House in years.

That's good. UFO just means unidentified flying object, I'm somewhat skeptical/hesitant to think 'alien' for anything, but whatever aircraft I saw wasn't some typical plane/jet, so experts on the more exotic stuff getting flown might figure it out and identify it. But again I'll have to wait till I can make a proper thread.

the question of intelligent life besides our own, can be answered merely by the laws of extreme numbers in our universe....whether they have visited our tiny planet is the overriding question for me....I tend to lean toward yes

While I lean towards there probably being life elsewhere in the universe because of the extreme numbers and probability in an infinite or near infinite universe, Ray Kursweil has a pretty good theory against it (his book about the singularity says it better than I, but the gist is if an intelligent civilization got advanced enough to use radio, and then lasted at least for some time, we would have detected their radio waves by now, especially if there are as many civilizations for as many eons as numbers would suggest). Of course then there are some mysteries and sightings throughout history (love Ancient Aliens) that would leave me puzzled how they could possibly be without alien involvement. So I'm definitely a bit torn on the topic, but definitely lean more towards than against.

Thank you, is there a thread that lists all forum rules? I caught the bit for newbies up top about proper intro threads, and I'm sure I can assume the no cursing/racism/other rude things, but I would like to check and be sure I've caught everything in case there's some specific rules regular good conduct and manners wouldn't necessarily protect against.
