Out of curiosity, if you were to begin "fixing" good ol mother earth, where would you start?

Well, if you can't take care of yourself, how can you take care of anyone or anything else?

The sad fact is that most of the people on earth cannot take care of themselves adequately to take the time to worry about the planet. There is a reason why some of these issues are sometimes referred to as "first world problems."

Before the sun becomes a red giant we would have moved to another world in another solar system. Probably keep going with the hopscotch method until the universe goes dark.

To start would be an impossible task today. First you would have to get everyone to realize we are hurtling through space on a tiny little rock made from left over debris when the universe began (i.e. junk) . There is one race : human.If we make a mistake , we dont get a do-over. One time is it. Differences between race, religion , politics,wealth , concepts that divide would have to be completely forgotten. We would have to forget "diversity" and concentrate on "unity" . Unfortunately I feel that it would take some form of near ELE to get this started .And I believe thats why so many people are in to "doom porn" . Not that they want some kind of mass destruction , but the world is such a mess now a reset button may be what it takes. Sure it will not be good for a while , but medicine tastes bad , right?

If we don't help the planet, we wouldn't be helping ourselves at all, given that we live here.

This reminds me of the saying that "principles only matter to one who is well fed". Essentially, no one can worry about things outside of the basic necessities of life until they are met. I do not begrudge anyone who puts their personal survival over the needs of society or the planet. It is nature in its most basic form.

We have to recognize and persist in the obvious truth that we are dependent on and connected to our environment - and that what we believe to be internal over against external, is just an arbitrary distinction when it comes to the big picture.

If we toxify our bodies, we toxify the world and vice-versa. For example, if we eat junk food, we support the whole junk food industry which is clearly causing tremendous havoc in the world and people. The world is toxified with its effects. The meat industry is having similar effects. Tobacco, etc., etc.

Then we have the endless need for fossil fuels - we are killing our air and ourselves. The examples of runaway consumerism are unfortunately unending - and do not bring happiness to us nor help our planet.

So clean up our act and the world gets cleaned up. It is all related, connected.

I would start with the mindset that in my next life I might be born in Africa or the Middle East. Basically that I need to make every country on Earth a good country to live in, then I am helping my self out if I am born again somewhere else. Humans are too greedy and doesn't see the big picture, they only see the now.

And also we need to get better at growing our own food instead of getting it in the store, everyone should have plants, maybe even small farms (this way we would also take care of nature). If you have chickens you can eat their eggs without having to harm them. Buying food in the store is ignorance, because you doesn't have to think about where it comes from then.

Of course if everybody is to have their own small "farms" then the population needs to be reduced, a lot. Reduction of the population will make it easier for us to have enough resources without actually destroying the planet. If 10 000 people could sustain themselves and live in a perfect happy society then why do we need cities with 100 000 000 people? What I mean is that we need to create several small self sustaining ecosystems which depends on a certain amount of people where the population in those ecosystems are kept at that number of people all the time. Then a few people could live happily not having a problem with resources since the population would not go out of control. The Earth could fit a set amount of these ecosystems and then we could be happy with that instead of requiring a steady growth of the population like we do today! "requiring a steady growth of the population" defines the society we live in today, and that is sickening!!

To decrease population we might need to execute mass sterilization, I guess the most likely method will be through a secret virus. It has to happen though, or the planet will be doomed.
