In 2012, active-duty soldier James Brown reported to the El Paso County Jail to serve a two-day DWI sentence. New video of his time in custody has revealed aggressive force being used on him by officers

a death the county sheriff's department claims was caused by a "pre-existing medical condition."

Brown had an apparent episode that caused him to start bleeding. When he stopped communicating with the jail guard outside his cell, a team of officers in riot gear were sent in. They confronted Brown and pinned him to the ground. Brown can be heard in the video repeatedly stating that he could not breathe. He claimed he was choking on his own blood.

He pleaded with the guards to remove a spit guard that restricted his breathing. He begged for water and was given only a small amount.

He was at some point laid out on the floor of his cell with shallow breathing and no signs of responsiveness. His family's attorney say the jail didn’t called for an ambulance during this period.

The autopsy claimed he died of natural causes

“He was bleeding out the ears, the nose, the mouth, his kidney's shut down, his blood pressure dropped to a very dangerous level, and his liver shut down,”

Source

This is sick. In the video, you can even see him laying on his back on the floor, completely unresponsive, barely able to breathe. His death wasn't due to natural causes, it was due at the very least to complete and total negligence on the part of the prison employees. Who the **** do they think they are, just standing there watching him die while he unconsciously struggles for every breath? Is this really what we stand for as a country? Letting those in power just murder us and get away with it?

This ...

The autopsy claimed he died of natural causes via a "sickle cell crisis," which can arise through dehydration and stress.
I just don't know what to make of that.

There was a crisis alright. You could see in that vid when he was breathing all goofy (and his head was moving along with the breathing rhythm) and his eyes were stuck open.

This is revolting and nothing will change in the US as you guys are great "Armchair Warriors" and that's where it ends.

As I've said many times before, if that had happened in the UK, there would have been riots in the cities across the UK until those officers were arrested and charged with Murder.

And here in the UK we don't have guns like our US cousins, but our police force have a lot more respect for us citizens than our US counterparts.

Divide and conquer, that is what is happening in the US now and it's worked. To busy fighting each other than realising the bigger picture!

Way to throw around an unfounded accusation....i have seen many times on this site Americans accused of being arm chair warriors....if i am not mistaken the Americans were the very last people in the civilized world to have a revolution...so to call them arm chair warriors is a bit rich....

Anyhow...to address the topic.......that is a disgrace...this seems like prison guards who would love more power in the real world yet have none so they destroy a warrior to feel like real men

Wait something I don't understand, they come and pin and cuff him because he was bleeding and unresponsive ?!

Yet at some point overnight Brown had an apparent episode that caused him to start bleeding. When he stopped communicating with the jail guard outside his cell, a team of officers in riot gear were sent in. They confronted Brown and pinned him to the ground

This was a sick video, incomprehensible !

No, he does not have a point, he is making a ridiculous accusation and should address the actual point. This is yet another example of members of the law acting with unjustified brutality that amounts to murder through negligence. There is something very, very, wrong with law enforcement in the USA at the moment. The tendency appears to be to hit people first and talk to them a very distant second.

Yeah between 1775 and 1783, not many folk alive from those times buddy, so I will stand my my original statement that you are great "Armchair Warriors" as you see these atrocities in your own country and do nothing. The only time folk take to the streets is when a young black man is murdered by LEO's and then its classed as race riots. You no longer function as a society looking out for all members, instead your country has become fractured, to many groups of people showing such a lack of empathy towards the rest of society that its shocking!

And have you heard of the "Arab Spring Revolution"? so no, the USA was not the last country to have a revolution, perhaps you need to scrub up on history mate as you don't seem to know much about the World if that's your belief!

Here's a little list of revolutions around the World since the US had theirs apart from the last two examples;

The Haitian Revolution

On 22 August, 1791, the slaves of Saint Domingue rose in revolt and plunged the colony into civil war. The signal to begin the revolt was given by Dutty Boukman, a high priest of vodoo and leader of the Maroon slaves, during a religious ceremony at Bois Caïman, on the night of August 14th. Within the next ten days, slaves had taken control of the entire Northern Province in an unprecedented slave revolt. Whites kept control of only a few isolated,

The Iranian Revolution

The Islamic Revolution refers to events involving the overthrow of Iran’s monarchy (Pahlavi dynasty) under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and its replacement with an Islamic republic under Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution.

Cuban Revolution

On March 10th, 1952, General Fulgencio Batista overthrew the president of Cuba, Carlos Prìo Socarrás, and canceled all elections. This angered a young lawyer, Fidel Castro, and for the next seven years he led attempts to overthrow Batista’s government

Chinese Revolution(s)

The Chinese revolution was a series of great political upheavals in China between 1911 and 1949, which eventually led to Communist Party rule and the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. In 1912, a nationalist revolt overthrew the imperial Manchu dynasty. Under the leaders Sun Yat-sen and Chiang Kai-shek, the Nationalists, or Kuomintang, were increasingly challenged by the growing communist movement.

Young Turk Revolution

The Young Turk Revolution of July, 1908, reversed the suspension of the Ottoman parliament that had been enacted by Sultan Abdul Hamid II, who abdicated in a move that marked the return to Constitutional government. The Young Turk movement brought together various intellectuals and dissidents, many of whom were living in exile or as officers in the army, especially those based at the headquarters of the Third Army Corps in Salonika

Taiping Revolution/Rebellion

The Taiping Rebellion was a large-scale revolt, waged from 1851 until 1864, against the authority and forces of the Qing Empire in China, conducted by both an army and civil administration inspired by the Hakka, self-proclaimed mystics named Hong Xiuquan and Yang Xiuqing.

The October Revolution

Also known as the Great October Socialist Revolution, this was a political revolution and part of the Russian Revolution of 1917. It took place with an armed insurrection in Petrograd on 25th October, 1917 (Julian calendar), which corresponds with 7th November, 1917 (Gregorian calendar).

The Glorious Revolution

To a large extent, the Roman Catholic James II (1633-1701), King of Great Britain from 1685 until he fled to France in 1688, brought the “Glorious” revolution down upon himself. When he succeeded his brother, Charles II, to the English throne, he proceeded to alienate virtually every politically and militarily significant segment of English society by commencing ill-advised attempts to Catholicize the army and the government, and to pack parliament with his supporters.

The French Revolution

The French Revolution (1789–1799) was a period of radical social and political upheaval in both French and European history. The absolute monarchy that had ruled France for centuries collapsed within three years.

In all honesty, it's always been like this though. Our culture is a culture of punishment, not rehabilitation. This is what our political leaders, religious leaders, law enforcement, judicial system, and even communities teach.

There's always an emphasis on being tougher & tougher on crime or "bad people"; never on being kinder, more understanding, or forgiving of them. And suspects are often assumed to be criminals (and thus "bad people") until they're proven innocent. And when people in charge of distributing that punishment get the leeway to abuse their power without being held accountable, this is what happens.

So France is not classed as a civilised country or in the Western World. So not only are you crap with History, your geography is crap as well? China was a lot more civilised than most western countries for thousands of years as well. Perhaps one should think before typing next time.

As said many times “Better to appear stupid than speak and remove all doubt!”

Oh trust me, it WILL change. When these guys return from the war, all hell will break loose. The government knows this, and I believe that is what all their preparations have been for.

These pigs won't know what to do when they are confronted by something that actually shoots back.

Alright my apologies i may have been a bit crass......

Of course your examples of revolutions are valid....i just do not agree with your generalization of Americans, there are a hell ofa lot of them and they do not all think alike, they are well armed and a good deal of em know how to use a weapon....

You seemingly want to see an uprising......as bad as things are in this world i am pretty sure a bloody uprising will be a lot worse...careful what you wish for

I agree with you that my generalization of Americans was rather a broad stroke and in no way means that all Americans are "Armchair Warriors". But........ where are the protests in the streets regarding this poor mans death? If this was to happen to an Australian VET in an Australian Prison, what would happen in your country? Would you all bitch about it online or would you protest in the street until those who killed him were held accountable?

I'll put it another way, "as long as it doesn't effect me then why should I care" mentality as taken over our American Cousins! As the famous poem by "Martin Niemöller: "First they came for the Socialists..." this is happening in the states and it seems the rest of the World can see it but our American Cousins are blind to it.

You seemingly want to see an uprising......as bad as things are in this world i am pretty sure a bloody uprising will be a lot worse...careful what you wish for

I don't want to see an uprising, but I would like to see those in power held accountable for their actions, and how can the normal everyday Joe do this? By protesting loud, no need for violence but with an election coming up, Police Brutality and Weaponising the Police Forces in the states should be discussed with any potential Presidential candidate and what they intend to do about it.

That being said and as said by another poster on this thread, this status quo in the US is not going to be put up with much longer. People are waking up but unfortunately IMHO, I believe the country has been fragmented so much in the last couple of decades that no protest or uprising is going to be any match for the new militarised police force.

Well people simply need to become self sufficient...we the people need to starve these greedy psychopaths out of their hidy holes but it wont happen any time soon unless there is a catalyst ...i have kids for example...my life is about protecting them and teaching them to survive and hopefully giving them the best start in this world that is possible.......i really do not like where we are headed as a society but at the same time i am forced to put my needs behind and focus on my kids, there are many in my situation and because of this society will continue down this path

some of the pigs doing most of the damage ARE returning vets:

Despite the challenges faced by veterans leaving active-duty military service for new or existing police careers, the ranks of police forces are swelling with veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the help of non-profits like Hire Heroes USA and government programs that incentivize employers to hire veterans, vets are getting police jobs.

Some Reserves and National Guard come back and get right back into police work without a problem. Some have serious obstacles to overcome when trying to adjust to the civilian world. A PTSD diagnosis for a returning officer can end a police career.

www.policemag.com...

end a police career...or a life...
and to the post that justified killing for a crime someone MIGHT do?
WOW....just WOW
