Oh my goodness. Can't pull one over on you can I. My point being though that one isolated 'branch' of science cannot be used to justify a complete understanding of the larger scientific picture. In this case, the statistics presented by that UN report do not present the full picture of human habitation, just an isolated statistic used to further a specific argument.

To examine solutions, we need to have all the variables of a problem - including statistical analysis.

But more to the point: I believe the answer is off-planet colonisation, and, here on Earth, is vertical growth. Vertical farming, tower housing - anything to take less horizontal space. Which will lead to more space for reforestation, thus absorbtion of CO2.
Additionally, turning to green energy needs to be done, like, NOW - I know Big Oil corps are dominating the market but we really need to stop burning fossile fuel, right now.
