Thanks for sharing. I like it, sounds all well done, instruments, vocals, mixing etc all good. I can hear your American accent compared to the original but it works, it has a nice quality and I like your voice. Sounds like your voice has also improved and developed a lot since the previous songs, more range and control of tone, good work.

I think it is very good... you said you think the vocals are the weakest link... the reason they sound like that is your equipment is not the best quality, and it is most apparent through the vocal sounds..

but other than that, you really are very talented!

I thought so as well, but these vocals were recorded on a $3,000 tube condenser microphone (it was a Blue Cactus). And the preamp was a Nev or something very expensive.

Thanks for listening! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks! Yeah - I totally hit some higher notes in the cover song. I hit a G, which is incredible for me (I have a very low range, and getting above "E" used to be and can sometimes still be pretty difficult for me). I'm glad I was able to pull it off!

And yeah, I was born and raised in New Jersey - regarding my accent. But I also do have a slight speech impediment. At least I say some words funny. I was in speech class when I was in grade school - working on my "S's" and "R's". I don't know about you folks, but I can totally hear it when I sing.

The only thing I like about that is it makes my voice a little more unique.

I have been around musicians my whole life and completely understand the problems that go along with egos and what-not. I am very sorry to hear about your best friend and how he ended his life. So tragic. Perhaps a tribute song to him and friendship would be nice to do?

Please keep us posted of any new material. You have made yourself some fans here.

Thank you! I was really anticipating getting a good review of this song on Reddit (where I hang out a lot), but they downvoted it almost immediately and the post got lost into oblivion. I reposted it again today, but no one even checked it out. That was and is a giant blow to me.

You folks seem to love it, but Reddit hates it.
I really wanted it to do well over there as well.

But you guys are awesome.

I stopped coming here for years because I was upset at the site owners for censoring a lot of things that I didn't believe needed to be censored (specifically the drug war and cannabis) - on a conspiracy site, nevertheless. But whatever - it is what it is, and that's a different story. I'll be back here more often.

Also - as far as my old lead singer who is not with us anymore is concerned: I should work on a tribute song for him. It's so freaking strange, though; It was me, him (Derek), and our friend Todd back in the late 90s. Todd died back in 2000, and we made a tribute song for him (Todd wasn't in the band or anything like that).

Now Derek is dead and I might make a tribute to him. Man, life can be strange sometimes.

Thanks again for listening and enjoying it. Please also don't forget to like it on Youtube.

When you do your tribute song, we would love to hear it. I am very surprised that you didn't do well on reddit. You are talented and obviously have some fans here. Don't judge yourself by them. We have good taste here and we love you.

I did and I will try to remember to like you on youtube as well..

One thing I am going to point out.. remember the most expensive does not mean the best.. usually the best is not the biggest name or the most expensive..

when possible, if I were you I would try out some different mic's and speaker and just see if you get a bit different sound out of them ...

take care and good luck to you.. you are very good.. impressive stuff!

Yeah, I'm not going to lie - I wasn't too impressed with the Blue Cactus mic. I started singing through a Neumann (not the U87, unfortunately), but I thought it sounded a little thin.

I was all over the tube mic because I was thinking it would really do good with the lows in my voice. It just has a real boxy sound to it and it's really hard for me to tame it.

Next time, I will pay to sing at a studio that has a U87 or something similar.

Also, thank you very much for the kind words and the great advice!.
I'll keep you all posted when I release more.

Ok, now I'm pissed off. I just tried to make a comment on your original on youtube and it wouldn't post! I'm signed in. It allowed me to subscribe, but not post. I don't know what that's all about. I'll try again tomorrow. There must be a disturbance in the force or something. lol My name there is Tylorian.

Don't be shucking out money though if you don't have it..

remember, that mic doesn't make you sound bad.. it is simply that you have the potential to sound better.. lol.. I hope that makes sense..

Hey everyone. I haven't listened much to this song:

-since around when it was made and released because every time I would try, I would nope out. I only heard it twice or 3x - not even in its entirety because I would get affected by it.

I just listened to it a few minutes ago - and with really nice studio monitor headphones (Audio Technica ATH-M50x) - something I didn't have when I even recorded it. With these type of headphones, you can hear everything.

Well, I completely lost it and was reduced to a blubbering baby. I can not believe how much pain you can hear in my voice. It's like night and day compared to any of my other songs. I had a problem at the time with something (clean and doing utterly fantastic presently!), and that is also extremely apparent in my voice. At least it gave it that edge.

It just got me. It's not even really that bad of a song. The mix could be better (I hear too much treble in my vocals), but it's really a deep song. More deep than I can really handle.

I posted the following on Reddit right after I heard it again, and it really sums it up:

I have never put so much into a song. Reading (the lyrics) rips me to shreds. They start off somewhat positive ("Get off the ground, take a step and don't fall down again") but once we get to the chorus, the uncertainty starts to show.

In the chorus, when I'm talking about, "Going back on my word", it's about me going back on my word to kill myself. The same goes for the second verse, where I sing, "That promise I made - I don't know if I can keep it now". F**K. That line gets me so bad. It's the most powerful line in any of my songs, and it tears me up.

I was so ****ing close. I can't believe I made it out alive. Please know that I am doing very, very well right now in my life.

But not then.

I just needed to get this all out once and for all.

I'd like to thank you for your honesty and sharing the pain of your past. I think many of us have had our dark moments and felt lost in the shadows. My own life has been quite the roller coaster and I hate roller coasters. So happy to hear that you are doing well now. If ever things turn around and you feel you need someone to talk to or to vent or even just to listen, just send a U2U/private message.

Hello everyone.

For the folks who really liked this song, I really think there is something you should know right now:

After weeks of wondering why the song sounds "off", I've finally figured it out. Most, if not, all the guitars were either a little out of tune, or the intonation is messed up.

Whatever the case is, I was able to fix it, and I truly believe that it sounds a million times better.

I also did some tweaks with the mix itself:

Vocal levels (volume) were lowered a tad.
The bass guitar levels were raised.
Pitch correction on my vocals was turned down.
And as I said, all 7 guitars were tuned with Melodyne Editor.

Please check out the new version (15.5, as opposed to 15.0). I think you all will like it a lot!

I apologize for missing this post until now, btw. I would have responded sooner.

Oh hello there! Hey, I had eventually got to leave a comment on youtube. When my computer needs an update, vids and things go wonky until I get them. It is set to receive them automatically, so I suffer for a few days or so in the meantime. Weird.

Have you been working on any more originals??????
