What is with the recent addiction to the use of the word "thug"?

First, I am not really on either side of the issue, because I generally don't care about people, or what happens to them.
BUT,
I am so interested in WHY people do what they do. Recently(in my opinion), there has been a huge uptick in the use of the word "thug". Like, constantly. Why is this?
Is it excitement of the opprotunity to cause an emotional reaction with a shiney new "N word"?
Just wondering what you all think, lemme know!

You answered your own question. Its a way for racists to keep blacks down, without saying 'n-word'.
Bring on the excuses.

Saying thug...

Gives people a mental hard on.
A mindfilled semi.
A psychological erection.

I saw the media focusing on the thug word too. CNN i think. They are definitely comparing it's usage to the hateful N word. Why I just don't know. Do we really need another word? Far too many to spell correctly now!

Leave it up to the media to create any type of trigger words or statements that define others.. I liked "Truthers" another good on was JLo... anyway I say ignore them as non issues. I'm sure we can all agree that we can tell the difference between protesters, Demonstrators,Rioters and other assorted criminals..

It really does feel like a new buzzword. I even find myself reacting to it, which is strange because, as I said, I generally don't care. Lol.

I have no idea how it can be the shiny new N Word. Unless you can find some way to apply the word thug to Toya Graham. Nope no way to use that word in connection with her or the vast majority of the race. It was simply apply to people acting like thugs they can be white black yellow green or purple it's a description of actions and not a racist word.

Rap icon Tupac used that word.

I think its just something everybody can hate. Its not racist to say and everyone knows exactly what you're talking about. People were protesting / thugs were looting and starting fires. Thug encompasses any race. And in my opinion "Thugs" deserve nothing but a concrete cell at best (everybody would be better off of they were all eliminated from society) they provide nothing beneficial to society and there is little hope of reforming them. a reply to: Jefferton

It is not "OK" or PC to say N@g$!#...
As sad and wrong as that sounds, The real Thugs are behind the scenes, pulling the strings... Laughing while the poor fight the poor, behind ideals and agendas that are not even their own. They send in the Pros and stoke the fire, knowing that it will lead to only the Mighty's benefit. They split us apart because they are afraid of us together.

Well you see that all Tupac's dreams came true leading the Thug life....lol

I like to call people thugs because it makes me feel like a bigger person. It helps me dehumanize people I don't like in order to feel better about the bad things that happen to them.

In hindsight maybe Obama should a used the word Gangsta. Their younger culture idolizes that word.
