Perspective from a sailor:
This will be resolved naturally and diplomatically. If the ship left the shipping lane and went into Iran's TTW, Iran has every right to take her in, detain, and figure things out ... a warning shot is common, professional etiquite on the seas by Navies when ships do not do as told in these situations.

This sort of thing has also happened before ... (I was there in 2007).

I think the Mersin, Turkey port is very interesting simply because of this announced on the same day in port:

Source

Turkey launched the construction of its first nuclear power plant, a $20 billion project, for greater energy self-sufficiency on Tuesday. The nuclear power station in Akkuyu in the southern province of Mersin is being built by Russia's nuclear agency Rosatom.

"Development cannot take place in a country without nuclear energy," said Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yıldız at a ceremony attended by the head of Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko and other top officials.

It is the first of three nuclear power plants Turkey currently plans to build to reduce its dependence on importing energy from exporters such as Russia and Iran. A second plant is due to be built by a French-Japanese consortium in the northern Black Sea city of Sinop, while a third plant, the location of which is yet to be finalized, is also planned.

Haha, knew it was bogus. Now I wonder if any paid-for politicians will use this fake incident as a justification to either scuttle the Nuclear deal or to send more aid to Saudi Arabia to "beef up security" in the region's waters.

Ummm did you read the thread? It's not a US ship and has no US sailors on it. The OP was based on Saudi Arabian sources which our fellow ATS cyber-sleuths have proven to be wrong. So why would our President have to do something here?

What a load of old rubbish, neither you nor I know what's going on. If a ship has wandered into Iranian waters and ignored radio as has been alleged, then I believe legally Iran has the right to stop that ship for inspection.

Now grow up and get used to the notion that your ideas of the world are (thankfully) not based in reality. Nobody is 'messing' with you.

Also this was interesting back in January.

January near the border town of Quneitra, when an Israeli helicopter killed a general in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and six Hezbollah fighters.

Marshall Islands was a US territory until 1986. They still use the US dollar for currency I believe. May have been registered there back when it was US territory? Either way, it appears it was not a US ship, only registered to a former US territory.

....according to Israel.

Truth is they have been attacking Syrian and Hezbollah units to protect the ISIS terrorists who, as is patently obvious, are another manufactured tool doing US and Israeli bidding.

Pentagon officials say the US is monitoring the seizure by Iran of a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship.

The MV Maersk Tigris was moving through the Straits of Hormuz, according to the Pentagon.

Iranian patrol vessels fired warning shots across the bow of the boat before it was ordered deeper into Iranian waters, the Pentagon said.

A US naval destroyer has been ordered to the region to "monitor" the situation.

Initial media reports suggested the vessel was a US cargo ship but US officials denied this and said no Americans were on board.

Marshall Islands is one of the largest registry offices in the world, behind Monrovia - Literally thousands of vessels registered there from all over the planet.

As per my previous post you need the IMO # weld-stamped on the stern and accommodation block.

(I'm ex Merchant Captain of 20 years and currently Operations Director Australasia region for US based company)

Is this the correct one for the ship in question? IMO: 9694581

I got it from here: www.marinetraffic.com...:1635726/imo:9694581/mmsi:538005749/vessel:MAERSK%20TIGRIS
