Given that the police chief, mayor, and nearly half of the Baltimore police force is black, are these riots/protests about "systemic racism"? or is this something else entirely?

When you realize that the riots main starting point was from young students who planned this over social media, you can't help but question the reasoning behind all of this.

I know some ATS members in other threads were blaming instigators(CIA/FBI etc...), but when you do that you are ignoring all basic logic and facts. The truth is that kids in school started this. They were the most brazen, and the most violent. Are you saying that these 15-18 year old Baltimore high school kids are in the CIA/FBI?

Putting aside all of the paranoid/conspiracy idiocy, what can be done to change this situation?

Would a 100% black Baltimore police department change anything?

Lastly, are these "protests" and riots creating more sympathy for blacks from non blacks...or are they causing more non blacks to be racist towards blacks?

Short answer: yes.

Society is basically a circle where people are mutually affected by each other. What one person does when hes stressed will cause another person to respond in a way that provokes yet another round. Common insecurities (fear of fear, vulnerability, shame, anxiety) will mean that any sort of 'cut backs' or outright agressiveness will provoke similar defense responses ranging from passive aggressive to hurling insults on the offense.

CNN is sort of in the middle of it all. It's reporting, but in reporting what it does, it is causing more people to become aware of it. It's a bit of a catch-22. If you don't do anything about chauvinism, corruption and arrogance amongst police officers, a social evil is sanctioned. If you try to create public awareness of it, inevitably, people will take notice, identify with the message; but among some demographics - the 'lowest denominators' - anger will build until it reaches a peak of narcissistic dominance, where there willing to riot, destroy buildings, cars, loot, and even threaten to kill police officers. It's take someone completely under the fury of narcissistic pleasure to not pay attention and recognize the damage and destruction it is causing.

And the worse part, no doubt, there will be unthinking and automatic minded people who will take this evidence of black people rioting as a "proof" that there is something wrong with blacks. The socioeconomic classism and the historical continuity from the slave era till today - the social dynamics which maintain in every generation a neurobiological-psychosocial "rhythm" that keeps the social group "stuck" in a negative basin of attraction. It keeps getting 'sucked' in.
In such dynamic systems, you need a system from "without" i.e. government, to 'entrain' it to a higher level of awareness.

But government doesn't exactly do that yet, and so some automatic minded people will hurl insults and strengthen their bigotry without every realizing the wisdom of system dynamics that control human thinking and interpersonal dynamics.

Long story short:
Yes.

Any news article that involves "black mob" or "white gunman" (you can also switch them around and they will conversely get the same amount of heated responses.)

Stop talking about it. It's a dead issue.

For #'s sake, average Americans can't point Russia out on a map, or know about the fast and furious scandal, but they'll be happy to tell you confidently that the government is acting solely in your "best interests."

ID Say It's forming an us against them in the black community. Was watching some videos of encounters with the rioters and they are picking targets not just the police. This isn't all that diffrent from flash mobs in fact the similarities are exactly the same they have gone to looting local businesses. One person breaks in the door next thing you know everyone's carrying stuff out the store.

Now image wise definately hurts I can't help but watch these riots and think of the scene in planet of the apes where they break put the zoo and go on a rampage. I'd say at this point mostrich Amaricans have no patients with violent riots and looting and will demand a stop to it when they do its going to get really bad . The protests seem to have been taken over by street thugs and sadly won't stop until they are in jail or dead.

I appreciate your reply. I agree with some of the things you said, especially regarding "automatic mindedness".

However, I was not talking about those people. The people who are racist to that point aren't going to change, especially over something like this.

I am talking about the people who are still open minded, and haven't had any dramatic experiences that have ingrained racism into their minds.

Do these people "on the fence" see these horrible things going on in Baltimore and feel sympathy for blacks?

Lastly, do you think an all black Baltimore police department would change anything, and why?

Very insightful response. Worth way more than a star.

As to your conclusion, I'm voting for the latter.

I wouldn't hire a thug ... present or former. Doubt many 'respectful' employers would (you've got to think about your other staff and what you'd be forcing upon them). What does that mean? It means these dumbasses who chose the 'thug life' are destined to be little more than a drain on society for the larger part of what should be their most productive years.

Life's full of choices. Make bad ones and your reach for the stars lands you on the moon. In the present situation, these asshats probably can't get higher than a basketball hoop.

No racism has been doing pretty good for hundreds of years without the Baltimore riots.

The OP asked a question. I answered it. Its been here hundreds of years it's still here today and will be here tomorrow. Ask a minority this question and I'm sure they would say racism is the same today as it was yesterday. My contribution to your thread is all you care about. Get you a few stars and flags and you feel lIke your a conscience thinker. No the Baltimore, Oakland, Selma and LA riots didn't cause more racism. It just forced you to take you head out your.....the sand and see its alive and kickin! Open your eyes, smh.

Well everyone is racist to a degree, it is tribalism..human nature.

Some are more than others, and act on that racism.

You are a prime example. Looking over your posts you can see that every single comment you make is racially charged. You have a bias, and you want to spread that bias.

Which is fine, I don't discriminate against racists. However, you did not answer anything pertaining to my OP. You made one ignorant generalizing statement.

I don't mind your racist opinion, but please at least contribute okay? Not too much to ask?

At the very least answer this...Would an all black Baltimore police department change anything?

For one I what you call a cell phone that actually finishes the words for me so the little spelling thing you said trying to sound clever is unnecessary amd childish.
Like I said My "contribution" to your little thread is over when I say it is. Get use to seeing me around.

How can you pose a question in your op then get upset with one of the amswers/opinions you get.

What racist statements have I made? Im just stating the obvious.

Would a all black police department change anything? No not if they still kill citizens.

When a group asks to be treated better but then acts like animals.... what should they expect? There is a very big difference between protesting and rioting, making a peaceful statement and looting and burning. I don't know why this is allowed to happen. When things get out of hand, there should be rubber bullets and water cannons. I absolutely support peaceful protests but not rioting and looting, and I don't care what color a person is! Some people create their own problems, or at least magnify them, multiply them, and make the problem larger than it was before. We've seen it before. After the Rodney King incident so many years ago... do people ever learn? Or just repeat history? We have come a long way from the days of slavery and no voting rights and separate but equal, but some people have the mob mentality and just make it two steps forward, one step back or one step forward and two steps back.

Everyone is racist in one form or another so i was wondering about that myself. Im assuming they mean making people they may not like blacks or maybe whited active in a cause?? What were seeing now adays is what i refer to as payback most whites really dont care if your black marriages are becomming quite common etc, What is the problem is the inner cities they breed racism. They are in a poverty area they cant find work because jobs left years ago. Major cities are still undergoing what ill term as white flight. So they have poor living conditions all they see is other blacks and they blame the whit man for their lives.

This is what creating public housing did it created a whole group of people that think society abandoned them which they did. And this creates anomosity to the rich white people not realizing their is white communities just as poor. But they are isolated from that do to public housing and welfare. Ive always said the only way to correct it it tear down public housing and give living assistance but make them go rent an apartment or buy a house, integrate these people back into society.

Well when you actually answer a question from my OP we will see if I get upset.

All you did was state something obvious, and tried to provoke a certain response from me. I have seen you in other threads...I know what you are.

I don't mind if you stick around, I actually want to get inside the head of someone like you.

Just try to focus on what is actually being talked about. No need to get worked up Mr. cell phone! I know cell phones are so hard and all!

P.S. -- Forming a logical opinion on a subject, and writing about it is MUCH easier when you have 3-5 monitors that you can use to research different media forms so you know that opinion you are forming isn't just emotional and racist. YW!

Are you that arrogant to think I wanted a response from you. You asked a question and I stated the truth. You pointed out a misspelled word (tbh I still don't see it) and failed to point out a misspelled word from another member but did quite the opposite. You said how insightful it was. Your still being smug with your little comments "Mr Cell Phone" and them "being so hard".

Since you've seen me in other threads please tell me what I am. Who is someone like me? I think your actually exposing yourself of being a undercover racist.

No it wouldn't change anything. Do we have less crime in cities that are predominately white with a predominately white police force? Speaking from experience the answer is no.

What I am seeing is a sense of entitlement created by a system that shifts personal accountability to a group blame mentality. I see a system that has created a mindset where only certain groups can do no wrong. I see a system where education has failed to educate. I see a system that has taken the parental responsibility and moved it to societal responsibility. I see a system that encourages laziness, lack of ethics, lack of education, lack of personal accountability, lack of morals while creating a system where its always someone else fault.

And even then we see protests turning into riots and behavior that's not acceptable, yet tolerated because its someone else fault its occurring.

Change is only possible when we work together. When we accept personal responsibility. When we hold ourselves to the same standards we want others to hold us to.

White people are not criminals.
Black people are not criminals.
Asians are not criminals.
Mexicans are not criminals.

People who break the law are criminals.
