A page or so back we saw a woman in yellow totally take her child to task for dumbassery. Not only did we love it we laughed at the child too! Now will this be considered helicopter parenting?!

Wow, just watched the press the conference. The police spokesman finished with the following statement.

"Parents control your kids."

He is another brilliant scholar.

Did they mention what his PhD is in?

Give him some credit he actually spoke up and stated what is obvious, but not politically correct to say.

Having seeing him say that, and watching several other black leaders coming forward stating how shameful theses thugs are or as what one councilman called them cowards: it gives me hope that maybe the black community might get some good leaders that will get them out of the victim mentality unlike the Jesse and the Al Sharptons of the world.

That is the first time I have seen black officials publicly put blame on their own community instead of making excuses. I give them props for taking some of the responsibilities.

Yeah the police commissioner mentioned her and that video and how he wished there were more parents like that out there that controlled their kids.

There are some very serious problems, both civic and economic, that need to be dealt with or riots and protests will continue. Control is an illusion.

The Brutality of Police Culture in Baltimore

Years of abuses are every bit as egregious as what the Department of Justice documented in Ferguson, Missouri, and as deserving of a national response.

People are pissed...and rightly so. Things better change or there will be no peace.

Watching Tim now. He just left a line of riot police, and about 1/2 block away there was some guys looting a liqour store. He's passing by kids with sledgehammers and tire irons just randomly walking around. Doesn't seem like there's a centralized area, it's just randomly around the city now.

ETA - and he just left a recently put out building fire, tons of sirens being heard across the city, and they're trying to go to another fire they see further away.

I see what you are saying but I can't help but feel that these kind of riots would happen even without the issues of social injustice. Think massive power outage or something like that. Opportunistic people like the ones we are watching are the same sort who flip cars and set them on fire when their favorite sport team wins a major game.
I appreciate your input, andy.

Was it riots when the whole east coast experienced the blackout? Nope not here in Cleveland.

Just an update from Tim's cast... Some group of guys blocked off an intersection, threatened to blow up the next car that comes through, threw a bottle at Tim, and stumbled across a firetruck with its window smashed.

It's still up. He takes it down every hour to archive the previous recorded footage. It gets back up in a few minutes after.

Doubt everything, I wouldn't be surprised if the Baltimore riots were "manipulated". The power's that be paid off all sorts of people that start riots for money.

I have watched multiple videos of the fires that have been started, especially the one at what some are calling a residential row house. I guess this is like a tenement building.

I have yet to see any of the residents, men, women, or children videod coming out of the buildings, or standing on the streets as they watch their home burn. ????? All you see are firemen trying to get their hoses to work, police standing around, and reporters. Where are the people? There are none.

If you have a link to any video showing residents exiting a burning building or standing on the streets as their building burns, please post it. I find it odd that there are no pictures of distressed residents.

Ok, I realise you must be from the US using words like that, so why are you even commenting on this anyway?

It doesn't concern you.

Should you not stay out of this thread, being from the UK? Or do your own rules only apply to other people?

Much of what I watched last night had locals explaining that there were large swaths of vacant buildings in the areas I saw. Which doesn't surprise me at all.

There was plenty of people, mostly business owners, out last night. I didn't see any houses on fire, either. If I was in "Charm" City last night I wouldn't have been outside for any damn thing.

ETA - they're showing clips this morning that people took last night of fires in their neighborhoods and the people are freaking out. So, yea.

Thats a rather shortsighted view and only really a stop gap measure until it possibly happens again. Could be worse next time, better to address the cause of the problems so they dont happen in the first place.

Which is not to say that rioters should be allowed to destroy the poor hard working individuals local businesses. Point of fact they are simply destroying there own environment. End of the day we need ask ourselfs why this type of thing happens so we can prevent it from happening again.

The idiots destroy their own neighborhoods....millions if not billions of $$$ will be raised by donations, taxpayer government grant money, corporate sponsors, etc...they will rebuild....and the deterioration and scumdog lifestyle will begin anew. Nothing changes really.

That deterioration and scum dog lifestyle as you put it combined with the socioeconomic problems and Police brutality these people face on a daily basis are most lightly the reason for such riots in the first place. Rioting is obviously not the answer but try telling those involved that and i imagine it would simply fall upon deaf ears.

what I find intriguing is that Baltimore... the Fort McHenry bombardment resulted in the 'Star Spangled Banner'...

I feel there is a linkage ---> a symmetry being orchestrated here
with the current unrest (leading to a civil-war/ martial-law condition) in Baltimore because Baltimore is a significant place of confrontation (RE: 1812)

and might well capture the anti-government sentiment running rampant in the population---
we seem to be anti- big-brother/ anti MB-Obama (who swears up-&-down he is not Muslim)~ (but does not deny he follows Islam)
~ that itself is a 'Lawyer-esque' difference in the two classifications...
& I think BHO is pulling a Clinton-esque fast-one on the dumbed-down sheep
