Should I be allowed to eat you?

I dropped in to visit a friend earlier and he was watching a program about some sailors from way back when; who's ship had sunk and they were adrift in a lifeboat.
Realizing they were starving to death they decided to slit the cabin boys throat and let his heart pump out the blood which they caught in a bucket, and they drank it.
By eating the cabin boy they survived long enough to be rescued.

Back home they were arrested for murder. However, in those days eating a person so that you could survive while at sea was quite common, and public support got the sailors freed, however, a retrial condemned them all to death, thats when the queen stepped in and reduced their sentences to six months in prison.
Soon after the law was changed and made it indefensible to eat someone, no matter how hungry you are.

So, lets assume HMS ABOVETOPSECRET just went down and we're all adrift in a life boat. We're starving and going to die unless we eat someone. Do you think we should be charged with murder if we do?

Personally I dont if its for survival, the only part I have a problem with is how that person is chosen.

The only way I can think this circumstance would really work...is if someone volunteered to be the food for everyone else and was willing to die for all of them on a voluntary basis.

We all die. In the long run it doesn't matter how you die.But it will come for you. I would rather go,not having eaten another human. I really could not bring myself to do that.

If I had to murder them to do it, no, but that's easy to say when you aren't in that position.

Sure. I may be somewhat bitter though.

If you kill someone to eat them then you should be charged with murder. I don't care about the circumstances if you kill them then you murdered them at least have the decency to wait for a person to starve to death before eating them.

You wouldn't get much off of me. I'm too bony. I don't think I'd taste good either. Better use lots of ketchup.
Seriously though if somebody was to die of natural causes it shouldn't be all bad. Murder is wrong-even if everyone draws straws and the loser ends up being food.

In "The yarn of the Nancy Bell", the ship's cook was one of the survivors, and the poem helpfully includes his recipe.

Yes, you should be allowed to eat a person in any circumstances, said my wife's cousin.

Me:- I don't think so.

Wife's cousin:- Why not? Let's eat humans and give the bones to the dogs.

Me:- Okay, I don't want this conversation right now.

Wife's cousin:- Why waste good, nutritional food?

Me:- I'm out of this conversation.

Personally I think there is a line, you choose to cross it, you aren't coming back!!

If all people where equally healthy id say no one gets to eat or be eaten.

However if one is doing obviously worse than others then i say eat them!

I think that its only illegal and bad if everyones equal because then its about who gets to live and die, whereas if ones doing worse then it makes some sort of sense to sacrifice them for the others.

Wouldnt it be a total stinker if you are 2 cups of blood in and half an arm when the rescue boat arrives *awkward!*

In the case I refered to the cabin boy was already unconcious, the guy who slit his throat was a butcher and knew the best way to bleed him was while his heart was still pumping. So, he didn't directly kill him, he let the kid slowly bleed to death so that they could get the most blood.

Agreed. In the case mentioned the cabin boy was...unfortunately, unconcious.
