Authorities issued an "all clear" Friday at the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island, hours after a bomb threat forced tourists to evacuate the area.

Well, there is the all clear!

Glad it was nothing.

I have just one question here. Why does everyone automatically assume that a dangerous package has to be 'explosive'?

It was a bomb threat through a phone call about a bomb in a locker.

pretty good reason to assume a dangerous package in a locker, especially if a dog gives a positive hit on a locker.

At least that is what I have read since it started. So it was the threat, not a package that caused the evacuation.

What kind of "danger" would you rather they presume is inside the "dangerous package?" Rubber snakes and silly spray?

A CD of Honey Boo Boo singing the hits of the Bee Gees?
I would consider that to be far more dangerous, but that's just me.

Could be a worker trying to get a day off. Or maybe someone trying to get a worker in trouble. Many possibilities.

I wonder if we will ever know?

That is a pretty high profile target for a prank call,
whoever did it will be in a world of trouble when/if they get caught.

I don't know why but when I read this I thought you meant they were evacuating the whole statue

Should I even say? I will. Things that might make people sick. How can something like that be detected and prevented? Or can it? Then the next question is, how can something like that be prepared for and mitigated? There are a lot of unknown unknowns. I only hope wiser heads than me are planning for such contingencies.

For a prank that causes needless worry, they should be. There is too much going on in the real world for idiots to be messing around like that, just my opinion. If that's what it is, of course.

Americans are so guilty they are scared of their own shadows.

Being scared of everything is a sure sign of a guilty conscience.

That's not true at all. One can be scared because of bad and traumatic past experiences as well.
