This doesnt really shock me and thats super sad.

What kind of questions were they asking about what they can see when they were a kid?

My uncle told me (when i was little) that clouds where made from power station cooling towers when i asked about what clouds were, but he didnt say that because he actually thought it, he was just a jerk!

Perhaps they just never wondered because, you know screw stars and moons and the sky, what designer is Beyonce wearing on the red carpet this year?! THESE are the real questions people, focus!

One day I heard someone tell me that she and her husband had a humorous argument about the sound of thunder and where it came from. I asked her, where did she think it came from? She says..."I always thought it was from clouds bumping into each other. And she was absolutely serious about it. So of course...I'm all like :0

When I was a child I asked my dad what causes thunder. I remember he told me this is what makes thunder.
I still don't know if he was pulling my leg or if he believed it himself.

Yeah, it amazes me that people can get so caught up in 'there' daily lives that they can't bother to learn the difference between there and their....

Actually, it's debated - Some say the earth/moon is a double planetary system, as the moon impacts our gravity as well, rather than simply the regular definition of "moon" where a small body orbits around a bigger one, they both orbit around each other, so to speak.

Ihad the same situation. After work one night I was awaiting a cab and five of my workpals joined me and one asked me what stars were....I laughed until I saw a few blank faces then I explained what they are. I had to explain what a galaxy was also....
Some people never look up I guess.

cant say ive met anyone like that but I appreciate how you handled her. a lot of people would have most likely though them selves supreme beings based on her ignorance but you took the time to educate her and that could bring nothing but good to her life. so good job.

actually technically The Sun is a name we gave our star so all stars would not be classified suns

But they are stars

And that just may speak for so many. Is this a parody?

In females I suppose its forgivable because such arbitrary knowledge they would never need to know, because lets face it its likely somebody else will be picking up the tab throughout there life's so it will never effect them. But when dudes are so ignorant, its like dam...WTF! Even though the dude in the vid was pulling her leg, even he must have been stunned.

Besides the moon is not a star or a planet in fact its not even a moon, its the physical incarnation of cthulhu ex wife, stealing your dreams at night.

We all life in our bubble universes ya know. As long as arbitrary knowledge does not somehow effect us it literally does not exist, even when it effects you even if you dont know why it effects you its still nonexistent, may as well blame it on Santa Claus or the boogieman or that God or Buddha fellow. So really people can believe anything they want and as long as it does not physically effect them, it wont matter.

In fact its just causality effect, most peoples life's are so short that no celestial object will have any direct effect on them even if it directly effects them.

Seen this vid on my Facebook today, it explains space time, but its a pretty good argument for us all living in alternate dimensions as well, forget that whole men are from Mars and women from Venus as that is just obvious, but the truth is aint none of us even in the same dimension.

So ya people who did not know that the stars suns and galaxies and lady who did not know the moon is a moon, well in there reality it does not matter as it will never effect them, in there causality stream and in the ecosystems they have created ie society and existence they were born into which is the sum total of there experiences. So that arbitrary knowledge is just that....Arbitrary.

Now if they were born somewhere else or someone else, it would be a different story.

I'd like to think that the Chap in the vid was just trolling the female host in an ultra-dry manner. I don't think that he was though.

It's sad I graduated high school 6years ago and believe me no1 gave 2 sh@ts about the cosmos.... I even heard some girl say my senior year "who the f**k cares about aliens!" F**k aliens" I was sitting there like wow, you really think it's just us out there... I mean sometimes I'll be talking to friends now and they genuinely believe there is nothing but us out there.... Of course Im the one to store up questions... I mean I respect their beliefs, but shouldn't they respect mine? There's nothing wrong believing there's more out there than just us but a lot of people believe everything there told..

That girl clearly doesn't understand what discovering alien life would mean. She will go home and be glued to the Bruce Jenner interview and we are weirdos for looking up and wondering. I really just don't get it. I even get made fun of by my "friends" because I have a telescope.

Nah he was trolling her. But the truth is even the knowledge that the moon is a moon is just trivial information which for the most part does not effect her, or even the majority of people, in day to day life its unimportant for a great number of people to know about such things. So yes, you can have people who are very successful and powerful and believe all kinds of things, they can even believe in the spaghetti monster or the moon is made of cheese.

There is no direct physical linkage between the two really. In fact generally the crazier and nuttier a believe the likelier it is you will gather a following and become rich and famous...Just look at the mega churches which permeate America. So success and power and all that is for the most part not depended on wisdom or even knowledge, but on knowing the trends and habits of a mass of people who are completely ignorant.

Because in day to day things. None of that information has anything to do with anything, and there are plenty of other factors at work which dictate were someone is heading or even were in society they will be and on what level and plenty of that. I mean look at the former bush president, the guy whole premise in his presidency was his gut felling that God told him or had a plan for him and America. Its even what he said when we invaded Iraq, I mean off course there were other reasons, many more and much more solid then that, and plenty of people around him know those reasons were and the real reasons of why, but that was all trivial information for him and others now wast it?

So ya! Like I said the vid above that describes what space time and causality are. Well as a byproduct it also makes a good argument that we all living in different dimensions as well, even in the very sense and meaning of the word "dimensions" And you can say that in most peoples dimensions its not important to know trivial facts like how the moon works and why its there are what it is or what those shiny things in the sky are. Its not even important to know such things to be successful or any of that, because there are many more important factors at work which will dictate that.

What is it that makes you so certain that he (the guy on the stool with the camp accent, chatting about the dress to the female host) was trolling?
