Is it possible?

The credibility of the entire concept of ufology
suffers from being lumped up with 'Aliens',
so i propose that separate these two things, rename the forum 'UFO's and UAP'
and stick 'Aliens' into 'Skunk Works' or 'Gray Area'.

Too many times have i seen an interesting thread
about the subjects to degenerate
into a stupid fight about whetever 'Aliens' exist or not.

'Unidentified Flying Object'
'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena'.

These two VERY interesting concepts get lost all to easily.

Maybe ATS could lead by example?

Thank you for your time.

I second the OP's proposal.

In my opinion; Humans,... either by pilot or remote.

It's too late for that. UFOs and aliens are synonymous from the viewpoint of our space-age myth. You strike me as someone who knows the power of myth.

Respectfully, i disagree.
Change may be slow, but it has to start from somewhere.

Sure, myth changes over time. Gods become aliens which will become something else in the future. But we aren't the authors of that process. We are co-authors.

I like your point of view, unfortunately that is not the topic at hand

If they were to be seperated, both forums would end up full of the exact same sort of threads, so why bother? If anything ought to be seperated, I'd say it's Ancient and Lost Civilizations; keep the real history in one, and the wild speculation in the other.

Respectfully, i disagree. "Why bother?" that is apathy, the enemy of all mankind.
The day we stop "bothering", is the day we can all just Eff off and die.

I respectfully disagree...legitimate extraterrestrial research does no harm to UFOlogy, Further it could be said that UFO insanity harms extraterrestrial research greatly...

Generally, I'd agree with what you're saying, but from my (admittedly limited) experience in the Aliens and UFOs forum, I think it would just end up a big headache for the mods, having to constantly move things around to the proper place, and there are a good number of threads that would easily be suited for either forum. That's just my opinion though.

Actually i think that it DOES harm the partiticular field, for 'Extraterrestrials' is an entirely different field unto itself.
There ARE Unknown Aerial Phenomena happening on our skies as we speak,
and as a field to be researched, i consider it to be a VERY interesting one.
But explaining it with 'Aliens' from the very beginning, does more harm than good, IMO.

It is unfortunate that the term "UFO's" is synonymous with "aliens", it does tend to introduce bias.

I agree the term "unknown aerial phenomenon" is a better place to begin any investigation.

There is so much inertia at this point though in associating the two terms, you might have better luck separating "Nessie" and "Loch Ness".

You're right, and if you don't give it a try it definitely is less likely to happen, kudos for trying!

legitimate extraterrestrial research does no harm to UFOlogy

On the contrary, people should have been seeking answers about black, secret, and classified man-made aerial endeavors directly from universities, private companies, corporations, armed forces, and governmental organizations. Instead, popular culture caused a significant segment of the population to research, focus, and question the extraterrestrial idea exclusively.

Today, we have many examples of declassified aircraft resembling eyewitness reports of UFOs. We also have CIA admission that many UFO reports were indeed hushed away and ignored, as they were in fact top-secret man-made craft. The questioning and attention of man-made craft was sidelined by the E.T. question.

If we would have been petitioning for Boeing or Lockheed to reveal their manmade engineering and technologies instead of focusing on aliens at Roswell, we would have known a lot sooner that many of those UFOs were actual hybrid blimps, stealth craft, and unmanned-drones.
