The Koch brothers choose to give money to science shows on PBS in order to say we are not anti-science. So when the climate scientists say we are headed for big trouble, we aren't biased.

Shame on PBS for taking the Koch brothers dirty money. Inexcusable.

What's wrong with PBS? They have always seemed even handed to me. Many great programs and shows. And accepting money from the Koch brothers... kinda like accepting money from Genghis Khan if you ask me. Just because PBS tries to stay independent and able to question the motives of certain people... I say that's a good thing. They don't join a bandwagon, they tend to defend the environment, which is in need of defenders. Profit is nice, but clean air and water is more important than constantly enriching the already rich, especially those that get rich from poisoning our planet. Duke Energy just received ANOTHER story about their poisoning of waters. Eh, they pay a fine and continue to ruin ecosystems. No big deal, right?

What's wrong with PBS?

I will assume that this is a serious question. Besides boring and uninspired programming they spend half their time begging for money and the other half showing outdated shows or Celtic Women in concert. I am fine with Celtic Women, but it isn't worth a donation.

I never implied PBS was biased just crappy television. If the Koch's want to waste their money on it what difference does it make? No one is watching anyway.

As far as a fine for Duke energy they don't care because they pass the cost on to me the consumer anyway. Besides, what am I supposed to do for electricity without Duke? It isn't like I have a whole lot of energy choices.

Regardless I was responding to the ridiculous poster who said we are on the edge of an extinction event.

As long as no strings attached then let it be , the Kochs also fund Broadway and high arts so it's not really out of character,
However in the real world it is easy to be corrupted by those who feed you.
take this for instance..actually this deserved it's own thread, but I have couple running already so someone pls run with it.
Ben Affleck Slave-Owning Roots Cover-Up Revealed
www.theguardian.com...
Now they did this for Ben Affleck or his handlers because it's Ben and he his famous but the Koch's are ryootch! with deep pockets so i get your concern.

Money, is money...is money...and I think that PBS is very worthy of getting lots of donations; the Koch brothers gave...PBS accepted... and PBS will put that donated money (from the Koch brothers) to good use.

Some people think that in accepting the donation from the Koch brothers...that PBS did a horrible thing...I think PBS did a good thing...because they will use that money for good quality programming...turning what many view as a negative...into a positive.

A fellow Duke™ Energy screwee? I'm here in Flori-Duh where Duke™ has these politicos eating/drinking out of the palm of their hands.

To wit: Even though I'm in Fl. I get to "invest" in a power plant that "may" be built in North Carolina in the year 2055. I'll be 91 and I guess I'll be living in N.C.?

Locally they closed a nuclear plant and all of Us (idiot taxpayers) get to pay the $2.3 BILLION it will take to de-commission it. Why wouldn't they use the $$ for the proposed plant in N.C. You ask? That is an "investment" and the Duke™ Board certainly couldn't pull in $300k across the Board..

I suppose new york presbytarian and their childrens wing shouldnt take their money either? Or any of their scholarships including for minorities.

Maybe we should be focusing on the real problem which is campaign finance laws and the fact the the telecommunication act in he 90's allowed all the media outlets to be owned by just a few people.

I believe fully in climate change both natural and man made. However, the worlds governments do not. The plans they want to inact will do close to nothing to help the enviornment. Why? Because they dont handle the problem at all which is rampant consumerism for useless artifacts. But that drives capitalism so cant talk about the real problem which is actually all of society. If you think the left in politics is trying to help (just cause they say they believe in climate change) you are niave. All they.care about is making money off of fear.

I think the concern is, could Koch funded PBS be free to do a program on climate change for example, given Koch's business interest in the coal and oil industries even without the Koch's prodding them not to they may very well self censor their programming to suite their gold ticket donors.

Who cares who donates--I just wish the government would quit funding them with my tax dollars. The good shows like "Nova" could find private funding and another channel. Obviously "Sesame Street" could support itself.

PBS give a voice to may programs that would otherwise die due to lack of interest in them. I don't see that as a good use of taxpayer dollars, even if there is a tiny audience that appreciates them.

This is absolutely stupid.

The Kochs are supposedly so evil, greedy and rich that they donate their monies to lots of things, including the arts and PBS shows about *gasp* science. OMG! How dare they! They should be keeping every single red cent and locking it away in some Scrooge McDuck Vault so you can all get mad about how they never donate it to worthy causes ... like science and the arts and education and stuff!

This is such a big revolving door of idiocy by people on the left.

Just come right out and say it - You don't like the Koch Brothers because you don't like their politics and they could suddenly give all their money to little homeless children in Sri Lanka and you'd still find reasons to b**** about it just because you don't like the Kochs.

It's gotten so sad that charities have had to ask certain doners to NOT SAY that they support the charity just because people like you will b****, moan and whine about it and refuse to give your own money. How petty is that?

But I don't like the Kochs because of their corruption of the body politic...giving money to homeless Sri Lankan kids is kool, polluting their water sources is not.

I and millions of others also give to charities without strings, but the concern here is not about being petty it's simply being suspicious.

Money is money.

If no one who had open politics ever gave their money, then no one who needed money would ever get it.

I didn't say don't accept the money but be prepared to walk away if strings are being attached.

Where you aware they donate to homeless shelters and do things like pay to have wells dug in Africa. I'm sure to those peiple they are a savior. Just because you don't like their politics doesn't mean they are evil. Funny how people throw around things over politics. Sad really when someone spends money to give back to the public people like you trash them. If they didn't people like you would trash them.

Again I am not saying them giving is not good I am saying watch them because they are also master manipulators.
