Or to put it another way.... the people in Yemen just threw out another US installed and backed puppet, and now they must pay.

Saudi Arabia is leading this fight US involvement is tactical support. This is SaudI Arabia making sure Shia doesn't get a strong foothold in the middle east. Me personally I think in the long run doesn't matter.

Where have saudi said they are moving in ground forces? all the reports I see say they have stopped airstrikes but no mention of a ground incursion?

not saying your wrong, just want to see the details

They declared the airstrikes over than gave a new name to the operation. Obviously it isn't over and they have alot of people sitting on the border.

Looks like the US has deployed the Rough Riders. The Normandy has seen quite a bit of conflict in the Gulf since '88.

www.washingtonpost.com...

The Roosevelt is a Nimitz class CVN. If she's past the straights and any hostile vessel approaches her, all she has to do is turn into the wind and there is a whole lot of pain coming from the air.

If you have never seen, more appropriately heard, a CVN bearing down on you, I assure you that it isn't something that I would want to be on the receiving end of.

Let's see if Iran can actually destroy a REAL US Naval CVN. What was the propaganda? 5 minutes for every US ship in the Gulf?

Now the sonar is active. Now the support subs are in hunt mode. Now the air defense / offense is on ready stand-by.

The Normandy? It was given an award for firing the most Tomahawk missiles of any US war ship. Wherever the port of call that any aggressor originated from? It won't be there the day after anyone fires the first shot.

Carriers are not industructable. But that being said Iran was so funny they couldn't even sink a carrier made of wood. And the speed boats I almost fell our of my chair laughing. Don't think they realize if they turn on the deck guns this boats will last 5 seconds. If you have to go to your local marina and borrow boats probably don't want to start a naval battle.

My brother was there during Prime Chance. I didn't get the impression he was overly worried about them during that time.

The other issue with Iran's aircraft carrier maneuvers was the fact they were able to get within range of one. Iran, should they try this stunt and somehow get close enough, would get once chance to attack before all vessels are engaged at a certain range.

There are 9 US navy vessels, 1 a US aircraft carrier, in addition to Egyptian vessels.

Of the 9 Iranian vessels, not all of them are armed.

So the question is what is Iran going to do? Run the blockade and violate a UNSC resolution, resulting in the loss of their naval assets?

Do not disrespect Evinrude that way lol. Our U.S. Navy proudly depends on Evinrude to get our Seals and Marines into spec ops missions and back out safely. They have used special military Evinrudes forever and they love them. These Evinrudes will never be sent overseas to foreign nations hostile to the U.S.

Evinrude reps can not even look at the Evinrudes on the base, "inside them to see what Mods have been done" even when they are invited to see them in action. If your a U.S. citizen and filthy rich you can buy the military base version of the 50HP but that is it and its not the same that our special ops boys use. Similar but not the same.

Unless you bomb one with a nuclear weapon over the flight deck it will keep on fighting. They are made to take many hits by today's missiles and torpedoes and shrug them off, never mind nothing will ever get through to one with all the defensive weapons and tactics. Just watch what it took to get the USS Oriskany to sink if you doubt that. They had to remove every safety feature, every water tight door and then cut away a lot of the ship inside. Then they had to plant a ton of explosives inside her and she still took forever to go down.

Just repeating what the military men used as a term. No telling what the equipment actually was.

LMAO!!! The Iranians just don't stop lol. So the U.S. Carrier Battlegroup moved in to the area and chased the Iranians completely out of the area a week ago. The Iranians now make this silly claim trying to make themselves look tough.

Report: Iranian Navy Chases After U.S. Warships

An Iranian naval fleet chased a U.S. warship and military planes through the waters off the southern coast of Yemen late Monday in yet another provocative encounter between the two nations, according to Iranian state media reports.

A U.S. warship and several planes reportedly “changed their direction” on Monday after encountering an Iranian naval fleet during a patrol in the Gulf of Aden near Yemen, Iranian state media

Update 5:04 P.M.: The Pentagon said Wednesday afternoon following publication of this article that it is aware of the Iranian reports, but that “no such interaction has occurred”.

They can take a heap of punishment and not sink, but it only takes one hit to take them out of the fight. It's a giant ship filled with fuel, bombs, missiles, nuclear reactors. Look at the Forrestal incident. An unarmed Zuni loosed on the flight deck resulted in a total loss of combat efficiency. Took about a year to get her stitched back together again and back at sea.

Oriskany had her own bout with fire while in service, unable to keep her station due to a flare on the hangar deck of all things.

And I wish I shared your optimism that all the defensive weapons and tactics will keep anything from getting through
