What is Major News Media used for?

Trying to understand why the World Governing Elite uses MNM. So far my conclusion is the WGE uses/controls them to withhold information, convolute the truth, and bombard us with news of murder, robbery, rape, and wars. I believe it's informational camouflage with the goal of ensuring we the world population cannot see and determine what their up to. They are concerned we might revolt if we knew the WGE's goals and how they carry them out.
Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this subject...

And in the old days .. before electronic media ... people would put it to better use as toilet peper in survival situations or use it to line the bottom of birdcages as thats about all it was ever good for ...

That's pretty obvious really. Dis-information, wrong information, retractions, deletions, accusations etc....they make money that way. Right? Great.$$$ Wrong? Also great. More $$$$ air time and commercial sales.
