This part is great

"The man did not appear to move from his position lying on the ground for more than 45 minutes. He did not appear to receive medical attention while deputies stood around him during that time."

Another classic

"Deputies said the Taser was ineffective due to his loose clothing and a use of force occurred."

... Good luck getting people to surrender peacably.

Good point. Many people are going to fear any interaction with police. It is as if there is a line, easy to cross, that makes being in the hands of police dangerous to one's health.

It wouldn't have been the horse in the video, he was too well trained. The reporter said 'a' horse not 'the horse.'

They would have put the horse down. PETA kills >98% of the animals that they take in. Google it.
PETA hates animals and the people who own them.

Gotta love the two guys late to the beat down who finally arrive and throw in a kick and a few punches.

This group is not qualified to work in any public contact job.

It seems to me that some posters here either don't fully understand what they were watching and the implications of it in wider society, or they they are incapable of responding to what they witness in the video with appropriate understanding.

Two crimes occurred in that video, one committed by the suspect, and the more grievous crime committed by the police. Not by any stretch of the imagination did the police act professionally and with due respect to their badge...they were just thugs. Society demands that police do not act as judge and executioner. What part of that concept do some of you posters not understand? Are you really that immature?

One or two of you are very mouthy about the suspect, and that he deserved what he got, others rationalise the beating as an acceptable part of police work, after all there's a 'what if' scenario to think about and be aware of, so just in case of 'what if'...beat the # out of him, just to be safe.

The video depicts nothing but brutality, and regardless of whatever uniform is being worn, it doesn't entitle the wearer to dish out pre-emptive punishment. Police are supposed to only defend themselves. Going off some of the comments here, some of you actually enjoy watching videos like this, its a delightful frisson to you to seeing someone get a severe beating, just as long as it is not you. Then again, that's the implication for wider society, because this sort of thuggery unchecked and not challenged in court, could mean that one day it may well be you, or a member of your family?

If I was American, which fortunately I am not, I would be ashamed by those cops, but it is enough that I am human, and I am shamed to live on the #ing planet with people like those cops, and some of the idiots here that pass for posters. Get your heads out your asses and grow up!

It's a very common mindset among Americans that people apprehended by the police deserve these severe beatings. Most don't actually believe in the Eighth Amendment, as they will not only support this but then support the idea of people being raped multiple times in prison.

Three deputies were injured during the search. Two suffered dehydration and a third was injured when kicked by the horse. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Lol. Just lol.

With the way charges work, the main will likely face down 3 assault charges for those police injuries. One for each officer. They're virtually impossible to defend against too, because while chasing you, the officer really did get dehydrated. So, even if he's cleared of the crime it's guaranteed jail time either through that or through a plea.

A lot of comments on unprovoked beating here.
Was it?
So the perp was tazered & had his arms spread.
The perp lead the police on a rather long chase using a car & a stolen horse.
Cops were injured in the pursuit & you can bet the perp had no respect or concern for anybody else but himself while running away. That means he would have put other people & road users in danger without care for comsequences.
i wonder if the perp was violent when stealing the horse?
The perp also injured the horse during his escape, again a total lack of respect or care.
The cops were understandably angry (to me anyway) when they finally caught up with him.
The beating might well be viewed as excessive but unless you are a cop who was involved in the chase how can you claim the beating wasn't justified?
As more cops arrived at the scene they had to have their dig too but they had obviously wittnessed calous behaviour from the perp during the pursuit.
I do agree that cops should be trained to put their emotions on a leash but they are humans too.

The horse thief broke the law, but the cops did worse.

I look around the web shows lots of citizens being beaten
for no reason, and even some who were handcuffed
then shot dead in the back.

Some of the cops are way out of line, and it is partially
due to the fact that alot of our cops are ex-military who
were trained to kill not "serve and protect".

When it all goes wonky I plan to head away from the cities
because it will be far less safer then it is now.

You could be defending yourself, and the cops roll up not
knowing the story and you are dead.

When the balloon goes up, I am heading for the hills.

This is a perfect example as to why.

And for all the people happy this guy got this treatment
you need to look at what happened to the people of
Germany near the end of the war and realize that is
what will be happening to you.

Humans don't change, and few of them learn from the
mistakes of the past.

There's no 'might' about it, it was more than excessive, it was brutal thuggery, and I hope each of those cops get thrown to the wolves. I think you would be right at home at the Salem Witch trials, one of those in the crowd screaming "Choke Witch! Choke! with a maniacal face of absolute hatred!

...unless you are a cop who was involved in the chase how can you claim the beating wasn't justified?

It was unjustified because of the fact that THEY ARE cops. Is it really so hard for you to comprehend? Is it really necessary for other posters to have to baby you through to the correct understanding of the event? You rationalise the beating through a 'what if' scenario which compels you to believe that the suspect deserved what he got, and probably it satisfies you, because you can only view the world through a very cruel lens of a twisted mindset.

Is it possible for Americans to actually understand that lawful punitive punishment is delivered by court...not by cop? Cops are meant to hand the suspect to the court in a way that he can stand on his own two feet 'compos mentis', so he can lucidly talk and answer the questions put to him from both the prosecutor and his defence. Why is it so hard to accept that? Why is it so hard for the public to demand that?

LMAO! I'm not a cop but I might well be considered a " citizen slave".
Fact is if you run from the cops they're gonna chase you & you had better be prepared for the consequences.
I can't beat the system but I'm a part of it.
So what to do?
If a cop says stop then stop.
You can ask why you're being stopped.

" Is it really so hard for you to comprehend? "
Is it so hard for you to comprehend that the criminal lhe cops were chasing was a danger to others including horses & cops who are people too?
The cops should have just let him go. right?
He was a criminal on the run with reckless regard for other & their property. He didn't give a fly suk about anybody or anything but himself.
If it was you he robbed who you gonna call?

The bad news is if this crap keeps up they are gonna need all the military Humvees and armor the military has been giving them... For there will come a day of reckoning and unfortunately the good will be taken down along with the bad. I hope I never live to see that crap ! The Chief saying he did not see the entire video IMO is a frigging lie... He just can figure out how to B.S. his way around the video for his hirelings defense..
