All conversion therapy really is, is psychological (and maybe some physical) manipulation using shame. That isn't therapy at all but abuse.

Not one credible psychologist or doctor would ever recommend such a thing, that alone should clue you in right there.

The only conversion therapy that might happen is they will convert you in to not having sex any more because they convince you that you're feelings are wrong and you should suppress them because God wants you to.

It's theological snake oil for the mind instead of the body.

That's what I find so strange about this topic actually. I'm a white non-religious man myself. Middle aged. Hetrosexual and happily with the same woman now for over 15 years.

I would call it "incompatible" with nature and, as an anomaly in the human genome or a product of conditioning is entirely self correcting in the Darwinian sense requiring no intervention.

As was said early on in the thread succinctly and accurately, voluntary treatment cannot be interfered with. It is the forcible "torture" that can be prosecuted as a crime just like any other instance of child abuse, none of which is conducted by the federal government.

Those who find homosexuality to be morally wrong are, by a large majority, mostly Religious people. Which is surprising, since religious people break several of the Ten Commandments, sometimes multiple times per day. Wish you had a big TV like the Johnsons? Coveting. Look twice at the pretty lady? Adultery. Work on a Sunday? Keep that Sabbath holy.

Nowhere in the Ten Commandments does it say "Don't diddle your same sex buddy". And somehow, the people who most often BREAK those commandments, think themselves to have some moral authority on the topic of homosexuality?!

Well, supernovae are "natural". That doesn't mean that it is a successful strategy for solar system advancement.

I simply mean that homosexuality does not reproduce itself so, it solves itself.

Interestingly, the only mechanisms capable of lending it longevity through reproduction are cultural mandates to engage in heterosexual reproduction despite the obvious personal preference of the homosexual.

American's are so screwed up when it comes to sexuality it's incredible. We put more effort into commercializing and selling sex than being honest about it while at the same time trying to ban our over sexualized and unrealistic commercialized versions we're selling ourselves.

We hide it while at the same time shoving an unrealistic version of it down our own throats. When it comes to sexuality in Real terms we are completely full of sh*t.

Probably one of the main reasons we have such problems with it when looks a bit different than what we are used to personally. Also why we are so damn violent too would be my guess.

Actually in social animals homosexuality can serve as a way of diffusing tension and reinforcing social bonds, particularly between males. This may be why it has persisted to be represented at all; further, with human beings so dependent upon cooperation it may be why it is so widespread among our species. Social sex for the sake of social sex (not necessarily just reproduction) is part and parcel to the human condition and it does serve to reinforce social bonds among males and females. Not everything in evolution is directly about reproduction, sometimes it is about the broader success of a species as a whole. There is a difference between a reproductive strategy and a survival strategy, although both are synergistically related.

Gay adoption is always an option. There are plenty of kids out there with no one to love and care for them
