First of all, I tried to see if topic about this exist, and could not find any. If indeed there is already discussion about it, my sincere apology and please mods close this topic. Also, I was not sure where exactly to place this, so mods feel free to move it to appropriate sub-forum if necessary.

Even I am one of IT people, I dislike all this social media and Facebook/tweeter, but here is something that god my attention.

Apparently last Thursday Dr. Tyson tweeted following, his suggestion for new Pledge of Allegiance:

If the Pledge of Allegiance told the truth:
“I pledge allegiance, to the Flag of the Divided States of America. And to the PACs, for which it stands, one Nation, at odds, divisible, with Liberty and Justice for some.”

It is incredible how accurate and correct above statement is, but tweet trolls that followed... it is just mind blowing...

Please, find a rocket, get on board, and leave this planet. twitter.com... … @neiltyson

And so on...

Where did we go so wrong, that people could not even recognize how true and on the target Dr. Tyson really is??

That's what happens when generation after generation is indoctrinated by those who believe not in freedom...

That's about all that can be said.

The guy is spot on, btw.

meh it's not that you guys went wrong, it's that you were never given the chance to be right in the first place.
I was born in the states, left when i was 9 years old, about 1994 think it was.
i went to a public school, every freaking morning you had to stand up and sing the anthem and that pledge allegiance thingy.
I guess schools still do that today?
Fact is that's indoctrination for you.
We went wrong when someone decided it would be a good idea to brainwash children with this "national pride" bullpoop.
That stuff sticks with you no matter how smart you think you are, and eventually it shows.
Americans are kinda bread that way, not much can be done really.
I know lots of people don't buy into that national pride junk.
But an idiot's voice will always be louder

When saying the pledge in public I end it with the addendum:
"...and Justice for All...who can afford it!"

Dr. Tyson hits the nail on the head. Sadly, many Americans are so mired in their delusion that they still have a choice and freedom, that they react negatively to any perceived attack on their misguided beliefs. Their politicians are bought and paid for perfect teeth sly smile snake oil salesmen. The media (especially MSM) do a great job dividing the american public into two distinct camps, and any who don't fall into one of those pigeonholes is immediately ostracized.

A sad state of affairs.

Pledges of allegiance

Sounds silly for a place claiming to be "land of the free"

Why would the Pledge of Allegiance ever tell the truth? It is an indoctrination piece. It's entire purpose is for you to swear blind allegiance to the US. Of course it is going to paint the American exceptionalism lie up. The Pledge should be removed completely.

Actually, it's original intended purpose had little to do with being a loyalty oath - a disgusting concept in and of itself - but to primarily sell flags. As an added bonus, the original salute wasn't "hand over heart"...it was the now infamous Bellamy salute. You know, the one the Nazis adored.

This one, in fact.

I never had to sing the anthem, and once I got to high school, I used my freedom of speech to sit down while everyone else was saying the pledge.

I'd be fine with the pledge of allegiance so long as they removed "Under God" from it.

America at one time was the rock, a rock that stabilized the powers, held tyranny at bay, innovated things that made the world a better place for TRUE freedom and was a force to be feared out of sheer power. We are still the one people risk their lives to come to, where else do the masses flock to? Russia? the ME? maybe your superior in every way country. When the world was looking into the dark abyss of WW2, this country rose up, along with others, to stop it...Russia was an ally, and we never should have got off course with them....together we could have made a hell of a planet, working to a common good instead of constructing the machines of war pointing and blaming. Even with all of this fabricated BS, we are still the magnet of the earth, corrupt and off course with the grand likes of this pure scumbag lying traitor in the WH. Those anti American idiots like him, and there are many of the easily brainwashed morons of twisted logic, tell stories of how bad we are and how their way is superior, but we are not educated enough to see it.... we see it for what it REALLY is, polished BS! Make no mistake, we are still a force, and with real patriots in the places that count we can return to the country we were, but it will take some doing. Too many anti-Americans in America, too much corporate influence and control, but we are still the one all flock to. Do everyone a favor....hate America..??GET the F out, Shut the F up, and go to your self proclaimed glory land and stay the F there... take your like minded superior intellect with you....make your own damn pledge.......

I don't see him as 'right' whatsoever. The current pledge is accurate in the sense is THAT is what we pledge our allegiance to. Failure to live up to standard falls on all citizens. Not on the pledge itself.

I see a far more insidious goal here which is a mainstay of the social engineers who know best where this country should go.

Simply put it is "redefinition". Redefining terms, concepts and morality.

Erase the definition of marriage, then anything goes....sooner or later. The Flag was a symbol of freedom, after the 'trial balloon' run on the Confederate flag, we now has 'Professors' defining Old Glory as a symbol of slavery.

Our morals have been completely redefined into 'Social Justice', ETC..

Just another redefinition attempt in the battle to save this nation.

Not only do we have to fight those that ignored their pledge of allegiance and return it to somewhere even close to what was intended, we have to put up with those that want to change it to their currently accepted 'comfort zone'.

Hold the line. I say, We will fight in both directions...

I don't necessarily agree with people forcing kids to say the pledge. I just mean to say that the pledge itself is rather silly as a concept to begin with, but if people want to recite it freely that's fine with me. I only take issue with the "Under God" part since the pledge is an official government thing and religion should be no where near it.

It drives me crazy how the average, uninformed American will offer a GTFO response when you're only trying to show them that there's a problem. The move Idiocracy really depicts that kind of ignorance well, but it's everywhere you look.
