Mr Mokbel, who is on $1 million bail, is due back in court in March to face a Commonwealth charge of coc aine importation. He has pleaded not guilty.
The informer's barrister yesterday revealed his client was prepared to return to Australia to give evidence at Mr Mokbel's trial - provided he was properly protected.
Barrister Nick Papas said the informer would prefer to give evidence by video link from overseas, but "will attend in person if necessary".
Mr Papas said his client was "just trying to stay alive".
