An interesting thing is happening in our poll: ATS POLL: Who do you want as the next President of the United States, the option, "Any random person other than those listed here," has significant support, and is statistically neck-and-neck with Rand Paul… who still is only getting 25% of the vote.

Elections in the US have become a sham, as nearly all of us here on ATS know; but with very few "normals" seem to have come to grips with that. Every election cycle, the billionaire oligarchs battle it out to get their chosen political operative to win the primaries and become the candidate we're given.

So let's spin this idea on it's head as a unique exercise in politics. Let's create our own candidate for President of the United States. Through collaboration here on ATS (and maybe also a dedicated site), let's define the ideal candidate with a crowd-sourced platform we define. We'll do it all. Choose a name. Choose a gender. Choose a belief system. Define their position on dozens of issues.

This artificial person would truly represent the people's candidate. A message to the system of the person we want, not the person they want to shove down our throats.

Thoughts?

That's optional in today's politicians. In fact, do they ever actually read it?

I would wager it does not factor into their day to day decisions unless they can beat the other party up with some feigned outrage over the Opposition's disregard of it while they themselves piss on it simultaneously.

Just make the ideal candidate have the ideal birth certificate and...whaaallla
Along with the ideal spotless criminal record, perfect tax record and cleanest closet in the known universe.

Oh, and forgot to add, todays ideal candidate would have to have inhaled at some point to get the young vote. Just make sure it happened in a legal State at the time of the imbibing.

Other qualifications.....Experience in Administration, ie administrating anything, even just a popsicle stand. No more of this wishy washy community organizer made up fake resume fillers for the top Administrative post in the land.

Setting aside my cynicism for politicians I would like to see:

Respect for other's rights without regard to race, gender or orientation
An improved immigration policy that allows all non-criminals to emigrate here
    Flat tax
    Stronger State's rights
End on the War on Drugs
    Less foreign interventionism
    End to lobbying
    Reform of the education system
    Reform of the entitlement system
    Adherence to the Constitution
Reduction in the size of the Federal government by eliminating redundant agencies that have state-level counterparts

That will do for now but I think I live on a friggin fantasy planet if I have any hopes of that coming to pass.

I'll try:
Name - Phony Alias
Age - 45 (young enough to serve two terms, old enough to get a long luxurious retirement after the second)
Ethnicity - Native American (hates us all equally, and statistically not from money)
Gender - Irrelevant
Religion - Buddhist (believes in something for the religious people to identify with, but gives us a break from the bible thumpers)
Occupation - Systems administrator, programmer, hacker, etc... a highly technical person basically.

Positions - Should I really list them all? That would take quite awhile... I can do it though.

Yes let's do this. I had this idea in another thread somewhere.

If we all agreed on a candidate. Wouldn't be perfect and we wouldn't all agree on every platform and policy they had, but if we could all agree on ATS and then...if all of us kept making threads and posting about them and making twitter posts about them and posting it on our facebook pages and on linkedin and on our blogs and in comments on yahoo and every other website. Well that name would get national recognition pretty quick. They would get a huge national exposure and push.

Making one person the focal point is whiffing the concept of how the USG was set-up. I'm not saying the exercise is unworthy, but it does lead to a gross oversimplification of the problems. It takes a number of different interests, including citizens, with a power balance to check each other to sustain itself.

The legislative branch of USG got "bought" in the late 1800's and the executive branch colluded with banks in 1913 to assume a superior position. The executive branch been more or less unchecked to this day.

I would argue that the President is a role player with a number of constraints applied by the dark state. Kennedy found that out the hard way. I would personally refrain from trying to idealize the position of POTUS. End the federal Reserve and the electoral college. Eliminate the CIA, NSA and FBI altogether. Pull all corporate subsidies, foreign aid and institute a flat tax.

First choice then taking it literally is....Robby the Robot, friendly and a-political, incapable of killing anyone and could only adhere to the constitution* plus the bonus being he can make the ol' hooch for free.

*Subject to any conflicting input.

The ideal politician?

I have no idea what one looks like.

Has to look the part, preferably around 6 foot. Distinguished looking.
Someone who has ran a business and was successful even if after a few attempts.
Married with at least two kids. Wife should not be involved in politics.
Calm and intelligent. Believes logic is important. Possibly went to College as an adult. At least didn't have rich parents who paid for everything.
Believes that people should strive to be better through hard work and education.
Owns a pistol and knows how to use it. Owns a rifle and is a good shot.
Has a general disdain for Washington politics
Has been in a fist fight.
Has to be a guy you could depend on if **#** went down.

I want a candidate that doesn't constantly say "I am not a scientist" that to me means we need to elect a freaking scientist that can understand the truly important s#!t.

A politician that majored in science, had a science background instead of law.

No physician's especially dentist's.

Vin Diesel would be my choice. Intelligent, business minded, and laid back. Good head on his shoulders. If he can get along with his crew, no doubt he can withstand Congress.

Short of everyone listing their ideal traits, which would shortly get out of hand and often contradictory, how do you plan on managing what the "ideal" candidate becomes?

I suggest another poll. Take the hot issues, the traits, and make a poll. The poll could be the old fashioned 1-10 of least-most important or something similar. Get the beliefs and positions narrowed down that way. The rest (gender, race, age, etc...) can be done with a multiple choice poll, similar to the original poll.

As for a name, it seems rather trivial. So run through the random name generator and make ten of each male, female, and ambiguous names. I ran it through, selecting all categories with a first and last name.

Here are ten random masculine names:
Richárd Knopf
Adam Starosta
Drystan Kendrick
Chandra Lu
Montague Lin
Makena Nováček
Alfarr Roux
Rostam Koziol
Thanasis Bergfalk
Yvon O'Malley

Ten random feminine names:
Ethelyn Breckinridge
Sallie Van Laar
Ester Sas
Derorit Griffin
Tamsin Plank
Tellervo Motta
Usha Jardine
Edna Zellweger
Banu Harrelson
Paulina Lohrenz

And ten ambiguous names:
Rowan Antonisen
Izzy Maas
Shun Headley
Mavuto Victore
Gili Róg
Chisomo Wirt
Ariel Mikkelsen
Tracey Kneib
Nuka Tinker
Amal Patenaude
