ATS is an american site with mostly american membership.

ATS is still visited for 50% by non Americans, up until recently it was actually 55% and only about 45% Americans.

With visitor numbers going down more and more, Americans are the ones seeming to stay more (makes you wonder why?...or not).

Quite simple: the fervent support and perhaps disdain that many have for non-US people and their governments is stomach churning. Peeps get sick of the ignorance, twisted arguments and blind hatred for countries that compete with the hegemonic powers. They get so sick they find logical argument does not work... the rest becomes inevitable. Like trying to explain something to a deaf man.

Or perhaps it is because there is such passionate bickering over America's two nearly identical fossilized political parties. European politics involve a spectrum of parties which must negotiate with one another to form a government; much more interesting. (Except, of course, in Russia, where all of the legally permitted parties compete only in how loudly they praise Putin.)

Usually it''s the governments of those countries and their actions that people don't like, not the civilians that have no choice in what their government does.

Not so. Indeed the Russian political opposition is very active and vocal.

In particular the Communist Party of the Russian Federation is very much opposed to Putinism and claimed undemocratic practices allegedly undertaken at various elections, for example.

The opposition press includes political luminaries such as Mikhail Gorbachev (he co-owns Novaya Gazeta, the paper the murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya worked for), and vehement anti-Putinist Grand Master and political blogger Garry Kasparov.

And often put under house arrest or shot in cold blood. The Russian opposition is more and more being accused of treason; many of its luminaries seek out second citizenships to protect themselves, and these dual citizenships are used as evidence of their treason!

Russian elections in Chesneya, in one precinct there were 1389 registered voters Putin received 1482, so Putin received 107% , that can be described as democratic and untampered voting ?
