Ignoring all the nonsense about how much money people imagine Mr. Brand might have...

IS HE ACTUALLY WRONG?

Income inequality only make sense if you believe that wealth is finite

It is not.

So if wealth is infinite, why is there so much disparity between rich and poor? Shouldn't we all be driving around in sports cars and flying everywhere in our private jets?

If wealth was finite no one would have those things at all. Economic growth would simply not be.

Wealth can literally be created out of nothing more than an idea.

Examples? I mean, even in the most basic scenario of going out to the woods and carving out a living, you would be imprisoned for one thing or another. How does a person create wealth out of nothing if the basic necessities are out of reach?

I understand how to create value out of abstract ideas (I'm very familiar with the concept) but they only become worth something because people who have money value them. If the gap becomes too large where the only demographic with purchasing power is that top 1/10 of a percent, there won't be anybody to give anything value. You can only create wealth when you have people around with money to value it.

If every person in the world offered you pocket lint for your product, you would only have a whole lot of pocket lint. You would be the wealthiest person in the world by pocket lint standards but it won't really mean anything or help you pay your mortgage.

Really?

A man creates a useful tool. His creation was dreamed up one day while wondering what to do with all this extra steel and plastic he has in his garage...He puts it together, does some garage science to test it and "Holy # this thing really works". He makes a few more and starts going to his friend with a CNC Machine and starts making more of them and selling them online. Super useful tool becomes super popular and it is now bringing in more money than it costs to make.

Profits start pouring in.

Business expands and Man goes back to the drawing board to brainstorm new Super Useful Tools that the newly formed Super Useful Tools Company can market to its customers.

Man starts making more money...And the Friend? He's also making a crap load of money because he decided to go into business with Man making his useful tools with his CNC machine...Now he has better CNC machines and a workforce that was hired by the company Friend and Man built.

Man started with an idea and a pile of useless steel and plastic.

Yeah...Really idiotic.

But I'm not poor. I'm one of the lucky people who has the opportunities to create wealth. We are talking about the increasing number of folks who can't.

I am extremely blessed to be able to work hard to attain my success. I know better than to say "I did this on my own". If I were born in some shanty town, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Russell Brand is funny.... funny looking!

But he is a hypocrite... he has lost the plot!

Exactly......he is cashing in on peoples stupidity ....

As befits his taste for only the very best of things, Russell Brand’s new home in the Hollywood Hills is a sumptuous affair of sunlit rooms and period vaulted ceilings that hark back to the golden days of the movies. Owned by Laurence Olivier in the Thirties, it has its own cinema, plus five bedrooms and five bathrooms (a lower bath-to-bed ratio is absolute social death in such a wealthy enclave). I beg your pardon but hello, I am talking about the sustenance of a system that has absolutely no reason to be sustained. You may talk as much as you want about the inventiveness of mankind but please, PLEASE, don't try to sell the idea of nor justify capitalism.

I have one thing to say to you.

Less than 1,000 people have more of the resources on this planet than more than the other 4,000,000,000 people combined.

Don't worry, the math is more or less correct.

Please, if you can, justify that to me and everyone else.

Yay a new film by a RICH European socialist about income inequality that he will use to get even richer...

This was my initial reaction as well. But I guess he's actually trying to do something, and affect change in a way he sees as positive, so I can't really fault him for that.

It strikes me really odd how the ones that are against the little people fighting back are also usually the ones against Big Government as well when Big Government is full of Corporate and Banking Revolving Door Lobbyists which they worship

Firstly, never found the guy funny outside of Bedtime Stories (film Adam Sandler) secondly, I think the bloke has some ideas but is going about them the wrong way, mainly because with all his wealth and money (and dont say he doesn't have that much, just read up on him and the many millions that he has) he doesn't do anything that doesn't put him in front of a camera. Brand is one of those kids that you see in the playground standing behind a bully, he will shout about you doing everything wrong about how the world is treating people incorrectly and then when it's time to put his fists up and say what he would do differently, he shrugs and lets the bully deal with the problem.

He has no new ideas, okay. I mean Dont vote. that's how he wants to solve it. If he truly believed he could change something, he would join a party, start a party and stand up to be an MP. If he did that then he would have a lot more of my respect which at the moment is lower than David Cameron (Dont get me started on him there isn't enough space on here). Brand can spout what he likes about life and yes poor people (of which I am one) is having a hard time now and probably will be for a long time just like before but having him on youtube and selling his films to try and make the world easier or better, No, just no.

I will say this because I have to end it otherwise I will run out of space, if he was to write his books, make his little films and give them away saying things like (read in his voice)

'Well right, I have all this facata money and I dont need any increase in my monetary wealth to better my inner spiritual being so I'm gonna like give the films and books away for free so that everyone can see my ideas and my hopes for the future of humanity on this small speck of mud and water spinning around the sun'

Then I would say, hold on maybe we should have a listen and see what this person is saying. I mean he is handing out this work and these carefully researched books and films to us for free so at least we can hear him out, but the fact that he is so far only using his so called TREWS to better himself, get in front of the camera and push his own egotistical and frankly annoying face at the front of every dispute going on in the world, puts me off him big time.

(Another long comment. Gotta sort that out. Should be able to reply with fewer words and sentences)

What a wonderful post your last one was. I agree, completely. What is more I kinda wish I could write like you because what you wrote was bang on and funny as fook as well.

No joke here, dead serious.

My problem is that I still think this is a case of shooting the messenger and ignoring the message, get me?

Much respect.

He has a really suspicious past.. was married to Katy Perry and even more dodgily, he was married to Jamima Goldsmith. That's quite a connection there.

But oh well, the man's cool in my eyes. He's spreading nothing but knowledge and positivity

You make it sound like socialism and capitalism can't coexist, which is ridiculous. You have to expand your horizons if you ever hope to find a sustainable solution to income inequality while enabling people to prosper.

Scandinavian nations are doing it, and doing it well. They have not caved into the typical neoliberal trash crap of chicago school economics, and yet they are prospering with a socially progressive system that has a free market and a free government, with free peoples who are freely educated.

a reply to: DeadSeraph I was responding to the accusations that brand shouldn't be paid for his film or charging money for people to see it, because he's not a fan of current free market ideology. On the whole I agree with you, I'm from the UK where we have a mix of socialistic and free market ideologies

A tax payer funded health service and infrastructure and a private banking and finance industry that funnily enough relies on the public, should things go tits up, like they did in 2008

Wealth is potentially infinite but its distribution is controlled. Infinite within finite boundaries.
