Obama’s National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, fell for a social media hoax on Monday, posting that a famous Nigerian writer had died that day.

But in fact, the author died two years ago
.

...

Rice made this mistake despite being the top Africa adviser in the State Department from 1997 to 2001.

With that background, one might assume Rice would be keeping up on news in Africa, especially since she is now one of Obama’s top advisers.

The Tweets - (and the originating story)

OPINION:

She Should Have First-Checked with ... ATS.

Mind boggling. How does someone get such a position of power and prestige while being that inept? Can I get a job with the Obama administration? Pretty sure I could do better...

Oh right. It's not about your intelligence level, skills, or abilities. It's all about who you know. The American dream at work, my friends.

ATS would have told her that :

nigeria is not in africa - its somewhere else

the writer in question isnt really dead or has been dead for 8 years - opinions vary

and lastly is really called achebo

Anything dumb about Susan Rice is to be expected if not required.

I wonder if she thought Chinua produced a video about the 57 States too.

So much for the best and brightest, government always has the least intelligent people.

Why are we surprised?

I bet Susan Rice thinks The Ukraine is a bankrupt construction company...

And I know Susan Rice wonders if the New York Bar Association serves Irish Whiskey.

I don't get the uproar against her. So she handled African politics for the State Dept a decade and a half ago. What that has to do with famous Nigerian writers escapes me. I looked him up. Politics was not one of his main areas.

She made a mistake and believed a rumor without confirming it. OK, egg on her face there. Yet why would she need to be aware of the date of death of this man? Did it have any bearing on her job until now? I doubt it.

I wonder how many people who are so outraged about Benghazi could find Libya on a map?

She fell for an Internet hoax and she tweeted without fact checking. It's an embarrassing mistake.

From Wikipedia:

Rice attended Stanford University, where she received a Truman Scholarship, and graduated with a BA in history in 1986. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, Rice attended New College, Oxford, where she earned a MPhil in 1988 and DPhil in 1990. The Chatham House-British International Studies Association honored her dissertation entitled, "Commonwealth Initiative in Zimbabwe, 1979–1980: Implication for International Peacekeeping" as the UK's most distinguished in international relations.

Yep, sounds like a real dummy. What are your credentials? Forum warrior with an honorary degree in Rothbardian BS from mises.org?

Well I know I can.

I bet Susan Rice might think it's in Sicily.

Why thank you, that is very kind.

The issue is not my brilliance though, it is her ineptitude.

Also, I am not the national security advisor to the president of the united states of america which, I believe, is a significant factor in the comparison.

It's not like anyone is suggesting she should be burned at the stake. It's pretty simple. A person with those kind of credentials and that level of responsibility should know better, or at the very least be capable of fact checking. I'll be the first to admit that social media can make fools of us all, but I don't get paid the kind of money she does, either.

Simple mistake? Sure. However I suspect if the tables were turned, democrats would be laughing it up too. They certainly were during the 8 years of "bushisms", and really, who could blame them?
