Matter so much as to deter you,
From the heart of love?

The image imagined
Does not hurt those
Who read what it's between covers.

My beloved's ivory face depicted,
Is not so much the face I seek,

Under the 'Religion' forum should be a sub for 'Preachings and Poetry'.
That would be nice.Then I wouldn't open a thread that sounds interesting and worthy discussing just to find that it is a poem or a page full of bible quotes.

It was the spirit or soul that inhabited Jesus that was important, not his body and face. People should look at the good that people teach instead of the person themselves. "There is no one good but god" is what Jesus said in the writings of the bible.

Deuteronomy 4
16 So do not corrupt yourselves by making an idol in any form--whether of a man or a woman,

Jesus came in the form of a man didn't he? That would make him an idol according to the bible. Why have people corrupted themselves with an idol in the form of a man?

The man made image of Jesus is the one of him hanging on the cross.

I take it to mean that we must love the Lord our God above all else.

How can you quote the OT when you speak against it. I don't want to use the phrase 'cherry picking', but come on.

I was only pointing out that the same book that teaches God coming in the form of man also teaches that an idol in the form of man is corruption.

It also teaches about misinterpretation, as in the case of the Pharisees, who taught that Jesus was an idol and a demon.

Don't be so hung up on the letter. Join the Spirit of the Law to yourself.
