But i don't agree the US police, being increasingly reported for mindless violence and intimidation of their public, being due to a weapons thing.

We here in the UK, know that our Police are for the most part unarmed and do not carry lethal weapons, and similarly, the UK Police know that we the Public are similarly, for the most part of course, unarmed and do not carry lethal weapons.

Exactly.
We don't have any fear of death when UK cops are arresting us, and our cops do not usually have fear of death on the beat...it could well make a difference in our collective psyche, and the way we interact with each other.
A broken nose, or a rib or two, and a busted tooth is vastly different to death by a firearm, cop or criminal.
It is a potential fear we in the UK do not generally have, and I imagine could well influence our civilian/cop relationships.

Maria Coto, the teen’s mother, said they have filed complaints against both the Merrillville and Hobart police departments. Hobort police told her they are investigating and will likely discipline Gabliardi, pictured above in a photo from his Facebook page. They also said they are not going to pursue charges against her son. Merrillville police have not responded to the complaint, but Croarkin, pictured below in a photo from his Facebook page, revealing a man who spends a lot of time in camouflage, apparently still wants Coto charged.
so no charges generally means no crime so kid seems to be in the clear minus the impound fee,the officer hopefully gets fired as well as disciplined

and they appear to be ready if the department and or the officer in question attempt to retaliate (that they even have to consider this issue is a deeper sign of the state of general mistrust of the police in this nation for their actions over the past decade or two)

Maria said she wants both cops to be suspended without pay until they have completed an anger management course and have the documentation to prove it. She also wants police to refund the $260 for the impounding of the jeep as well as a public letter of apology to her son as well as a promise no charges will be filed against him. But she also understands they may try to retaliate against her son, which is why he will always have his Go Pro camera ready to record.
