Russian TV channel scotches rumours of a Kremlin coup with report Mr Putin is at rural retreat recovering from flu, while spokesman says president will be watching Crimea documentary airing tonight

Media speculation has reached fever pitch over the weekend about the whereabouts of Russian President Vladimir Putin – now missing from the public eye for 10 days – with swirling theories of bloody Kremlin coups, secret births or sudden deaths.

But the reality on Sunday appeared as if it might be more prosaic. Has Mr Putin really just been in bed with a bad cold?

Opposition television station Dozhd reported on Sunday that Mr Putin had come down with the flu and was currently recuperating at one of his country residences outside Moscow, citing anonymous sources..........

The only reason i'm having trouble with the cosmetic surgery theory, is that it would have been planned ahead of time. Maybe a cover would have been created, such as putin going on vacation or hunting. However, the Kremlin's actions in covering this up seem very clumsy and unprepared. Whatever happened, it seems to have been unexpected (at least to Putin). Flu theory, maybe, but he should be well enough for the cameras by now. When I get the flu, it normally doesn't last more than a few days, a week tops.

Odd different from the Kremlin spin who said he's in good health. Even if he's sick they could of prop him up at his desk give him a box of tissues it's been over 10 days.

That's what I figure as well. The flu sucks, but it's never put me down in bed for 9 solid days. A little medicine, and i'm on the couch watching TV.

While i have no idea if it is true you have to consider that the flu also kills and mostly older people.

so you have a 62 year old man who may have other health issues that they have kept hidden that will make it worse.

so a couple of weeks minimum seems probable if not more.

The word now is that Zolotov, Putin's #1 body guard was killed. Very limited information citing sources in the Kremlin. Of course, rumors are branching out. Some say a maid found the body. Another story said he betrayed Putin, so putin shot him and then had a seizure afterwords. A second story, more likely I guess, was that Zolotov took a bullet for putin, but the assasin fired a second which hit Putin. Again, these are just more rumors....so far.

Good that at least we know where Obama is when he is not in the office.

Pretty soon you hear the 'word' that Russia does not exist any more. Part of information war in attempt to seed panic inside Russia. Nothing more. All other attempts have failed, guess last resort option is here.

Yep, me too. More faux news. I simply need to know what is going on in my country. There simply has to be more info on why Putin is on TV just today but we all know he is dead.
