Yep and these days people just make threads for the sake of it.. literally no point in many of the threads but people fire them out anyway.

What other point would there be for making a thread? for the sake of it?

I really do not understand that comment because there is surley no other reaon to make a thread?

I anticipate your answer.

Okay. I'm sorry.I just like running my mouth. I mean typing. But not typing to the point of actually doing a good job to write a thread. I mean there are some really good threads on here. It's intimidating.

Don't be intimidated by anything, nobody knows everything...not here or anywhere. Just be aware of those who seek to patronise.

You seem to misunderstand my friend,

If you like to run your mouth then you are exatcly the kind of member that should be making threads.

My guide to ATS threads and how they go down.

1. Introductions. " hey i'm "insert name here and I like"insert topics here"

Response. ^-12 regulars post hello's welcome a new member (insert memes as appropriate)

2. Newish members. " hey I have this crazy idea about(insert topic)

Response. 2 members encourage deeper learning and suggest reading matierial. 5 other members mock the newbie with total distain and in jokes, ridicule ensues and thread dies.

3. Flag hunter posts main stream news in alternative news section before anyone else

Response. 120 flags 220 stars. Cudos attained.

4. regualar member posts picure of polarbear rollerblading.

response. Hilaraty ensues, 15 flags everyone is happy.

5. Mars picture? what is this on mars.

Response. whoever says it's a rock first wins, thread dies regardless.

To be continued by anyone else....

I do see replies as different. I get captivated by some of the threads. I came to ATS learning. I don't like writing. I'm not a details person. And I'm on my phone. I can't tell you how many times I've thought of something and debated if it was worth finding a link for a person. I enjoy reading. If I remember where I've read it I will share. If not I do try to point a person in the correct direction. I think that if you start a thread there is more expectation of evidence and citation than a reply.

ETA: Are you aware you come accross as an ass? I never did an introduction thread, I jumped right in when something had me bursting to he heard. There are many people here that have great personalities online. Many of enjoy different perspectives.

Maybe these people realize that by creating threads with no substance they are just polluting the board with more threads that are not worth reading, and they either do not wish to expend the effort necessary to create a great thread that is worth reading, or they are not confident in their ability to create such a thread. Just because someone does not create their own threads does not mean they should not have the right to tell someone when they are wrong, or even voice their opinion for that matter. When dealing with factual information it is an easy thing to prove who is right and who is wrong, and often times such a debate would be relevant to the thread topic. If someone comes into a thread and "trashes" it with facts, why get mad at them? We should probably thank such people for hopefully halting the spread of incorrect information to a certain degree. And if they come in with their own opinions, who cares, considering that such statements cannot be proven, and thus there is not really any point in arguing with them. However I do agree with you in a certain instance, and that is when someone enters a thread with their own opinions, but these opinions have little or nothing to do with the topic being discussed. The mods do a pretty good job at weeding out the worst posts of this nature, but because such posts are often interspersed with relevant information it is not as if the entire post is off-topic. Therefore I imagine that the mods might have trouble. So while I do not entirely agree with you, I can understand where you're coming from. My advice would be to maybe try and shift your focus to how many people don't do stuff like this, because I think there are more people doing things correctly than doing them incorrectly. And if you get really frustrated just remember that non-factual disagreement is only someone else's point of view. An opinion different from your own does not negate your opinion is basically what I'm saying. People can be annoying for sure, and I get that it can be really difficult to ignore certain behaviors. But what alternatives are available when you really think about it? Anyway, good luck.

I'm Sorry if you think I come across as an ass, it's not my intention.

Could you let me know what caused you offense please that way I might not do it again.

All I meant to say was that if you can write a well structured reply then you can make a well structured thread.

It's good of you to care. Unfortunately I can't just copy and paste the why. However if you click your very own name you will get a list of the things you've recently posted.

Also you should consider the difference between fact and opinion. Something can be proven or disproven various ways. However no one needs to justify how they feel emotionally . It just is.

So you disagree with my use of ATS? I can understand that to some degree, I like to treat it as a community and spend my time both debating important issues and making friends and having fun.

As I said I did not intend to insult you in any way and appologise if I did.

You seem to have set a standard that I was not aware of in terms of content?

What is it exactly that I have done to infuriate you so?

Please reread what I typed. Your posts about how others utilize ATS can all be viewed one by one regardless of the thread. Perhaps if you do this and think as if you were the people you are addressing?

This may seem small, however people with so much to share resort to private messages due to aggressive posts.

I have reread (again) and I fail to see how we ended up disagreeing?

All I ever meant to say was that someone that can forn an intelligent and well written reply could surely write a well written thread.

If you are worried about other members reactions to a thread then it is no different to a post in an existing thread.

Again sorry if I caused unintentional offence I simply meant to encourage more members to make threads.

Peace.

The fact that you care is a big deal. Short of smacking you in the back of the head as I would my child and chastising you I'm simply going to leave with the hope that you continue to care. Thank you.

Wow? I have had far bigger disagreements both in the real world and here on ats and not been threatened with a smack round the side of the head like someone would a child.

I thank you for you thanking me but am still at a loss, I upset you in some way and appologised.

I asked you what I had done and proffered an appology, said we could talk about it.

You chose to not only ignore my offer but say you will beat me like you beat your own children?

I hope you are having a laugh and in fact have no kids but like a good bit of banter on an internet forum.

Have fun and if you really do have children please do not hit them, it serves no purpose.
Peace.

I can't imagine why this bothers people. Write a thread. Don't write a thread. I don't care. There is person who posts about 10-12 threads per day. They are typically over the top with sensationalism. I don't care for reading them, but I don't mind that the person does it.

If the person never posts another thread, I wouldn't care either. Why take it all so seriously? Just go with the flow.

Each to his own.

We have some fantastic posters on here who don't write threads. I always read their posts. I understand why they don't write threads. They don't want to. What's problem?
