You're overlooking the entire purpose of such delusional beliefs.

Their purpose is to make people feel better about their otherwise miserable existence on this planet. You telling someone to get over themselves is not likely to stop someone from believing something without serious repercussions to their emotional stability and self respect.

As can easily be verified by looking at the persistence of religious beliefs, delusions do not go silently into the night. One particularly salient one is your belief that you are smarter than everyone else. You aren't.
