After reading some horrid comments that kids should not be taught anything about sexual orientation before the age of 18 otherwise the person teaching it should be done for pedophilia I have to put this video up by the FineBros.

This isn't about teaching kids about sex just the fact that gay people exist and the fact many can get married now.
Kids can take information like this and normally don't care but the later we leave educating them of tolerance and acceptance the more chance they will grow up confused and or have bigoted feelings about what gay people are.

another video.

One about two dads.

Kids talking about their gay parents.

Or a great story about two gay dudes adopting 12 kids.

Give kids the credit they deserve they can understand and unlike many accept it.

Or do you want your kids to be like this one?.

Kids don't know prejudice, it's taught by prejudice parents. They mimic the behavior they see, so if you do hear a child spout a racist or anti gay remark, they got it from home or other kids that have picked it up from home.

I did not watch the vids but would like to say that my 8 year old son seems pretty cool with gay couples.

He has been raised with a few gay couples in his life and just got on with it but I think it's far more acceptable now.

I think the whole concept of any relationship is bizzare to him.

You see, although kids minds are impressionable, they are also quite difficult to penetrate by the propaganda machine until they somewhat mature and become more intune and interested with information and technology.

Consequentially, you usually get a more fundamental human truth out of kids and how they conceptualize the world around them than adults.

I have 2 pre-teens and agree with your OP - they really do understand and accept.

The thing that my kids don't understand is why some adults have a problem with this.

Yeah one of my fave comments from one of the girls is when asked "what would you say to people who dissagree with gay marriage" her answer was "cry me a river build a bridge and get over it".
I'm gonna steal that.

I've told you about my daughter being special needs before. She's 19 going on 12. This week it's 8 though. She regressed just a tad and hid some scissors and cut all her hair off! Aye!

Anyway, when she was visiting last, we were watching movies, and I have Rent because I love musicals. You probably know the premise, but if you don't, it's about some friends, some are heterosexual, some homosexual. Some have full blown AIDS, some HIV positive, some are clean. They all live in a run down apartment building being managed and trying to be sold by another ex friend of theirs. My daughter asked what it was about, so I gave a small synopsis, even explaining it had some people who loved each other of the same sex. She said, "Some people are gay in it?" I said yes. She said, "Ew, that's disgusting!" For her, she's at that stage where she has crushes, thinks kisses are gross but wants a kiss from a boy, go figure.

I did explain to her that no matter what, as long as there is love between two people, it's not gross, or wrong. She said she thought it was wrong, but given her emotional development, she may outgrow that stage eventually. Also, her opinion may come from her workers at the group home. Outside influence. if you will. I'm religious, but I believe God doesn't make mistakes. Whomever you fall in love with is ok in His eyes. I know that's not in tune with some of my religious "brethren", but that's how I personally feel.

I remember when I hated on gays.

Then I met some, and found out they were chill.

The long process of questioning my faith, plus getting to know a few people with a different mind set and lifestyle than mine resulted in the breaking down of my prejudices. Sure there are the flamboyant homosexual males that throw me off with their weirdness but everyone is weird in some way. The funnest part about making gay jokes is when you do it with gay friends. They have some of the best!

I don't care if someone is gay and I sure don't want to see the gays discriminated against, but leave my kids out of your agenda. Seriously, if you want to piss me off mess with my kids. Just no.

Then do the right thing educate them yourself.
If you really mean you don't want gay folk to be discriminated against and don't care If people are gay teach your kids that.
Oh and where am I messing with your kids with my agenda?.

Twice today I have seen you post in a thread regarding homosexuality without a real reason.

I kind of understood the first one but this one just seems like a step too far whilst retaining any validity.

I hope this does not cause discourse but as I say you need to have a reason beyond personal disagrement on a subject to involve yourself.

Since when is disagreement not a reason to 'involve' ones self in a discussion? Not sure what your problem is or why I should listen to you about when I can participate in a discussion. Strange.

I educate my kids that all American Citizens have equal rights and protection under the law. I don't need to educate them about gays.

It was not an easy post to make as I often agree with your views.

I felt that you missed the point of the OP and although I respect your right to do so your opinion is outdated and does not contribute to the general ethic of the thread.

The fact that you seem to think that you can have a problem "listening" to my view whilst expressing your own and deeming my comment "strange" also gives me cause for concern.

To add I will respect your rights but this comment validates my own opinion on your opinions.

I don't doubt that as I don't think anyone can educate other about a topic they themselves don't understand.

Perhaps your kids could better educate you.
