I have just spent the last month on and off in hospital, having my mental capacity for pain, patience and dissapointment tested to the limit. It's been one hell of a challenge I almost feel I'm being picked on. Now is God the type to punish people for mocking him on an Internet message board. Is he that serious that he has thrown such bad luck in a non believers direction. It's made me think twice before making anti/ religious posts, because I just can't handle any more trips to the hospital. Am I just being paranoid or could I be paying for my actions.even if some are only light hearted humourous posts. I just need a break, so I'm just going to quit for now. Is God serious, does he ever laugh? Or is it strictly serious all the time?

God is not a person. There is no need to project human emotions onto something as abstract as god.

On the other hand, what you do isn't mocking god, it's attacking people's belief. It is a bit different. Even if you don't believe in god you should know it's not cool to attack others unless they leave you no other choices. Maybe think about that instead of freaking out about god.

I doubt it. God must have plenty of other matters to attend to other reading your post...sorry but ATS would most likely be the last place he would come too. I would like to think he spend most of his time with the likes of Peter Popoff and the others like him and Jim Baker as they have earned a little bad luck.

I also believe that God promised not to interfere with our lives so any one that attributes earth quakes and natural disasters to God are not actually a part of the team so to speak. I doubt you have been punished by God, only punished with bad genes or bad decisions which ever caused your hospitalizations.

Do you have bad luck if you break a mirror too? Your imagination can play tricks on you.

I can't even fathom the hell you've been going through these past years with your cancer battle.

Is it any surprise that you would finally crack and start asking "Why me ?! What the hell have I done wrong ?!"

It's a very human thing to ask those questions. Unfortunately, there is no answer to them either.

All you can do is keep fighting the fight and hoping you'll win the war. Easier said than done, but you can't allow these thoughts to pollute your mind because they serve no benefit to your state of mind... or the healing of your body.

My heart goes out to you.

I know I'm being stupid. I have a serious illness anyway so the problems I've had should come as no surprise it just seems like things get worse after making such religious mocking posts. I'm probably just paranoid after all the painkillers and lack of sleep I've endured over the past few days. I just start looking for explanations, where the answers are easily explained logically, I guess I just don't want to test the waters again. Maybe I'll just lay off the anti religious posts, but they are so tempting sometimes, like an open goal waiting to be finished off

I post things against religion. All the evil people do in the name of it. No worries here. As far as medical. They treat side effects not problems. Do some research, help yourself if you can. a reply to: woodwardjnr

I think your right. I think I'm finally starting to crack up a little, but it's stupid things too, like knocking my breakfast and morning tea all over my hospital bed and none of the nurses being around to help clean it up, so I just lie in a bed of warm tea and milk waiting for some help which takes up to an hour to come. It feels like my mental health is being challenged to cope with one stupid thing after the other

Bah, hospital food deserves to be knocked over... the stuff is crap.

On the plus side ?

You don't live in a part of the world where you have to pay an arm, a leg, and your first born to get a refill on your spilled cup of tea and soiled bedsheets.

See ? There's a silver lining behind every cloud !

a reply to: CranialSponge very true and on the whole the medical staff were excellent as usual, you always get a few duds as in any profession. Anyway enough ' woe is me' moaning. Things could always be worse. I just need a months break from it all. That's all I ask. One month free. Leave me alone for a month to just get over everything. I should be so lucky.

It is through suffering that we're drawn to God.

"Whoever wants to be my disciple must take up their cross daily...and follow me"

The cross=suffering. This is a gift.

"Ask and you will receive, knock and the door will be opened to you". Try knocking.

This earthly life is short-term. Eternal life is His promise. But you have to ask.

God bless you, I'll pray for you.

Jesus reveals God as our Merciful Heavenly Father, so God is not getting "revenge". You can play with a human's emotions but not God's.

Maybe the bad luck is just a result of past harmful action or maybe God is using this somehow for you to grow in mercy and love - but revenge from God's perfect mercy? no.

I didn't want to say anything without looking at your recent posts history and if I may judge by 5 minutes of reading, I honestly don't see how you've mocked God at all. Even if you had, I doubt that he'd do much more than shrug his shoulders and worry about more important matters. Since you can't harm him, you can pretty much shout at the moon all night long and it won't change a thing. There is nothing wrong with openly debating religion so long as your opinions are presented rationally and not intended to divide people. After all, we each have questions which might never be answered. If God were to punish you with a lifelong illness then you'd surely have done something very, very wrong. What really matters are your actions towards fellow people.

My deepest sympathies for your health problems. I hope you recover enough to enjoy life more!

The mere fact that you think God might be 'vengeful' shows that you haven't had much exposure to an organized church. If you have questions about taxes you go to a tax specialist. Questions about law you go to a lawyer. But it seems when people have questions about God they go to internet forums. Personally I find it funny, but I guess it's an early step of reaching out for information.

God is never vengeful. Bad things happen for reasons we don't understand, not for revenge. Next time your sitting in the hospital with some time to waste ask for the chaplain to come visit you. The Hospital will have a few they can call. Talk to an expert about God. You don't have to believe in aliens to talk about if they might be real. Same with God. The Chaplin won't try to convert you and hang a cross around your neck either.

No matter what you do all the Best!

Stay strong - easy for me to say eh.

I'm not sure if stuff like this works but I'm sending positive thoughts your way (although I don't know where you are so I'm sending them to your avatar), I urge others to do so.

Life is # more often than not but you seem to be coping admirably.

Non-existent supernatural beings can't do anything to you.

However, god is far too busy inventing hideous new diseases and watching babies die to bother with you.

Stay positive and get well soon.

I am so confused. He doesn't exist, yet he does bad things.

What?
