Derrick Rose is set to undergo serious knee surgery for the third time in three years. The Chicago Bulls announced Tuesday night that the star point guard and 2011 MVP will undergo surgery to repair the medial meniscus in his right knee.

So I assert to you ladies and gentleman of ATS is Derrick Rose cursed? I dont think I can recall a sports player having a three peat if you will of season ending critical injuries. And I really thought Rose was back and looking like explosive player he was. This is very sad because Rose is a stand up guy who you can tell really loves the game. And is a great person for Chicago.

I am wishing you the best D rose.

It's a wrap for dude. He is a great player, but he has suffered from some incredible bad luck. Sometimes the difference between great athletes and has beens is just avoiding injuries.

I think it is more that his knees just were never the same.
Which is strange, he far from rushed his way back but who knows.
Hopefully he goes over seas and gets some stem cell stuff done, seems that works rather well.

It is a shame, he was a great player.

I was looking at one of the comments when I saw the news and someone said he might have to face the fact that god doesn't want him to play basketball.

Three straight knee injuries like this how do you mentally come back from that?

and what do you do if your the bulls? you have basically said for almost 3 seasons with Rose were a championship team and yet you havent had Rose in the playoff rounds.

Happens all the time with concussions or whatnot... It's more uncommon, I would think, for someone to be able to come BACK from the first injury to still compete at such a high level, once again.

I love the guy, became a big fan ever since he won the MVP. I think he needs to take a couple years off though and just come back 100%, or as close to that as possible. I feel like they keep rushing him. Or maybe his career is over, in which case that would suck. Go Raptors!

He is not cursed. He is reckless. How long do you expect to last, when you hit the floor every time you complete a layup?
Look at D. Wade...
All Rose ever needed to do was slow down just a little bit

Cursed? Hardly. Injuries are up in the NBA, and have been for awhile now. Footwear is being scrutinized more and more as having something to do with knee issues. Athletes pushing their bodies too far, packing too much muscle for their frame...etc, is a big part of the problem. As someone else mentioned, Rose plays full out, and when your body takes that kind of abuse over a season, you're not going to escape unscathed. Derrick is a hell of a player, but he might as well start thinking about moving on in his life. Obviously his body is not up to the level of playing style he wants it to be, and now he's older and facing another surgery. Stick a fork in him. Pity, though... you can't help but admire his tenacity and spirit.

Cursed??? Hardly..

He signed a $185 million shoe deal with Adidas

He signed a 5 year $95 million team deal with the Chicago Bulls

He has loads of other endorsements, ranging from Girodano's pizza to Adidas to other spots..

Yes, his playing career has taken a few set backs, but he's far from a cursed man.. He is a well-compensated man who tends to have bad luck with his health..

I really hope you don't think he's cursed. Been reading many replies saying how hard it is to come back and nobody else does it, but just last year Russell Westbrook had 3 knee surgeries, 1 of which they said he would be out the season and he came back way early and then damaged them twice again that season but always came back and I'll tell you the biggest difference is mostly mental. Russell almost plays harder now than he did before the knee injuries, he never takes it easy on both ends of the ct. If you remember Rose was cleared by the medical staff during the playoff race two years ago but refused to come back, and when he finally did come back you could tell he was tentative and unsure of his abilities to cut and explode for layups and dunks. In sports you cannot play if you are afraid to get hurt or re injured as that's when it happens, it's almost psycho schematic.

I played basketball my whole life and played in college also and I torn all the ligaments in my ankle twice and now I where an ankle brace not because I need to but because mentally it gives me an edge of confidence without even thinking about it.

Rose didn't help himself mentally in my opinion from watching his body language on the ct and his interviews. Sometimes these things happen to great talents...Bobby Hurely was touted as the next great point guard and his career was over in a blink of an eye from a freak accident, same thing with Jason Williams.

Bad Luck, prior injuries from childhood not healed properly, etc led to this, not a curse. It's a shame too because when he was healthy he was a great attacker of the rim and defense, never had a decent jump shot but a great player nonetheless.

The Bulls put way too much faith in the Derrick Rose basket. When he re injured it the 2nd time they should've been going after some of the point guards that were available. I mean just recently how many moved teams. The window in the NBA is about 4 years before you need to revamp because so many players switch teams and salary caps. Teams like the Spurs are very rare to where you can get players to stay and take less money to pay younger players. I will also state that the Spurs have the most international players on the team so values are much different in sports because team comes first. It's a unicorn of the sports world basically.

Oh how the mighty have fallen, probably one of the worst point guards now?
