Man could face jail time for not paying child support for boy that isn’t his

A Detroit man says he has lost his job, is almost homeless and could face jail time for not paying child support.

However, DNA tests prove the child in question is not his.

On Friday, Carnell Alexander turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

“I stayed up all night. Couldn’t sleep thinking about it,” he told WXYZ.

Alexander says the State of Michigan has ordered him to pay child support for a boy that he can prove is not his.

“I haven’t even had a chance to speak to him except for one time when we took a DNA test,” Alexander said.

The case started in the late eighties when Alexander’s ex-girlfriend had a child.

She said she needed help providing for the boy, but was told that in order to get welfare assistance, she had to name a father on the paperwork.

She said she decided to put down Alexander’s name, even though she knew he couldn’t be the father.

Ya the child support system is messed up.

I still have to pay child support, even though my kids live with me.

The oldest is 14 he has lived with me for all but 1 year of his life.

When we went to court over child support when he was 3, I had receipts to prove I had paid child support on him.

The judge said since child support wasn't ordered it was a gift.

Then charged me 1 year back support for not paying child support.

I was floored. I said judge, I did pay here is the proof, the boys mother even tried to tell them I paid, and did not want or deserve back support.

They didn't care. They put a tax lean on everything I own immediately.

She and I have both tried to end the support order many times since.

They will not.

Makes no sense at all.

Happens all of the time.

These are some of the unintended consequences which have the potential to make more Americans understand and value freedom and liberty.

Even the most ardent socialist must recognize this eventually and, as it happens, most socialists (in the US anyway) eventually do concede the point and at least stop the ignorant drum beating for more government interference.

Happened to my best friend. A girl said the child was his and he said ok maybe, because he did have sex with her, and she said he was the only one. Child was born and a year later he had a DNA test done and it was 98% not his...

The court said he was still the father since he exceeded a year as the father and he will need to continue to pay child care for the next 17 years, which he did...


Oh if he could ever find the real father he could sue him for what he had spent...ya right....

You understood just fine.....i am in a similar situation (different country im in Australia) i have my son fulltime,the system took him away from his mother and i got him out into my custody.....according to child support i owe her money and she does not have to pay me ....if you can figure that crap out i will be impressed

Not only that, but the taxes on her her child support payments are paid by him while she got all the tax credit/deductions....

He paid all of her and his lawyers costs since she did not have a job, He was ordered to pay her a good chunk of money while she was still pregnant, and if he got a buck raise she would take him back to court for more support, which he would need to pay all the lawyers again and again...lol

If any guy has a kid, I suggest a dna test.

Stateside you have a variety of time to prove it's not yours or your on the hook for 18 years.

Once your in the system it's to late.

I live in a country with socialist systems that provide for all. By the statements I have seen the US system is insane form my point of view. So you can have a system where the children get the support they need and not being used as a system to give money to the mother that have nothing to do with the care of the child. US marriage laws seem to have the same insanity with a need to provide for the other even if the other is a lazy person. And Obama care seem to be a way to force people that do not have money to pay for healthcare pay anyway to the benefit of corporate America.

America just cannot seem to implement reasonable laws like the rest of the western and north Europe can.

What you just described is illegal and criminal and if it was me, I'd take the actual judge and signatures on this unlawful decision to court and sue their asses off, and turn them into the police station for crimes, research and find exactly what crimes and ensure they were tormented until real justice was done.

You can't allow injustice to stand or you're handing this crime to your children. We have to clean up the messes however long it takes, and not hand the mess to our children.

This is not being said because I think you're doing anything wrong in the least, more in the spirit that people need to sit down and find solutions and bring it out in the open and find the legal way to take out the rogue criminal judges and elements in this system.

Don't pay, let the police and court systems know that you are going to pursue their corrupt behinds being sued for recompense, charged, and their careers ended. That this is over. Don't sign anything, don't agree to anything and find ways to actually take action even take legal advocacy courses locally and mount the cases. These stories are unbelievable, theyre criminal and have to be solved.

We live together.

I have the stupid card in my wallet, so I just get the money right back.

Yes it is a retarded as it sounds.

The mother and I live together.

We have both at least 6 times a piece tried to stop the idiocy.

Every time they stop charging me for about 6 months.

Then one day I get a letter saying they are charginge child support, and back date it for the entire time they didn't charge me.

I just said screw it. I pay it, I get the money back....problem solved.
