I'll just go with "I'm glad you're from somewhere else".
if your country had the balls to invade, just make it our shores. We wouldn't even require the military.
On behalf of the deceased, may you rest in peace. I pray for the family.

The only tears and tantrums I see come from you every time you infect a thread.

On topic: I hope the family finds peace.

And people believe that removing all guns from the world will stop murders and war. Seems those existed before gun powder was invented.

like I said, toddlers! As soon as someone says something they don't agree with - they act like toddlers or is it petty 13yr old girls bitching in a bathroom - so hard to keep up with you 2!

Anyway, been great.RIP for the family, another day another American gun incident where guns and Americans were not to blame.

i'm off for a morning paddle in the river! ta ta!

If there is one commonality to these mass shooting incidents, it is that the perp had been mentally 'treated' beforehand. Put the shrink under a microscope, 'cuz there's your real killer.

That and the fact that a mentally deranged paranoid maniac was on the loose.

Let's be very honest here. Usa has lots of problems. Prison overpopulation. Under reported unemployment. Under employment. People are struggling. And to top it off healthcare is a joke. People cannot get the help they need until it's too late, beit jobs, living or food assistance, and especially mental health. Fix those problems and these problems fix themselves for the most part.

I'm with you, America is facing a paradoxical catch 22: Gun related murders are out of control (with too many ill people being able to gain access to them as well), yet if anyone tries to implement gun control the people start crying conspiracy and or affront to my 2nd amendment rights. Unfortunately these people are hard to educate/ convince, but they really need to wake up and see the whole picture - that gun ownership is out of control in America.

Secondly, people saying that if it weren't guns it would be knives etc. are similarly misguided.

1.) No, people will not as readily resort to knives.

The decision to go on these sprees is weighted by probability of killing targets and other responding units. A knife has a much lower success rate than a gun, therefore the person would have to be significantly mentally ill or disgruntled to take this option. Whereas with a gun a jilted lover, or mentally ill individual suffering an episode, can easily go on a spree and be assured they will get their targets.

Additionally guns are far less intimate than knives/ blunt objects, the perpetrator is more removed from the suffering and death of their victim. Therefore making the gun a more desirable option.

I will concede one caveat here: While the mentally ill and jilted lover etc. definitely prefer guns for their killing sprees; I will admit that gang members do not care, and as people say will resort to knives and other weapons. However, this is a straw-man argument against gun control as getting guns away from the mentally ill and those likely to lash out after being fired/ jilted, is a win/ improvement! After that win we can focus on the societal issue of gangs and crime.

2.) Even if people will always resort to using weapons, knives/ hammers are far less effective than guns: take longer to kill a person, harder to kill large amounts of people, less range etc. Again this is a weak argument to use against gun control.

It's interesting to me that stories always seem to lead with the implement used in how people were killed, and only some time later, usually as a footnote, do we learn why.

Whether it was by shooting, stabbing, strangulation, blunt force trauma, car accident, overdose, overeating, disease, natural causes, or trip and fall, these people are dead.

Pontificating on your particular viewpoint doesn't change the fact that deaths have occurred, nor does it prevent future deaths. In the event of a murder, the murderer is going to kill someone by whatever means they can; that is the real HOW, not the implement used to do the killing.

What the hell is wrong with people on this site?

If you're going to try to make yourself feel better about your personal view of the world around you, without actually helping to make it a better place to live, do so among your friends, and peers in discussion, and not while proverbially standing over the lifeless bodies of others that you didn't know, or care about before this event occurred.

For the family, my condolences.
